DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Endure The Affliction
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Endure The Affliction sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Deion: Killswitch Engage - Incarnate. That album is a masterpiece and pretty much embodies everything that I personally love in music.
Tim: Dio 'Holy Diver'. Because it's still the greatest album I've ever heard.
Brett: Hmm. I'd pick A Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step album. That would keep my sanity through the whole trip.
Byron: Hertzeleid by Rammstein, it has the most of my favourite songs from them.
Kyle: Metallica's 'And Justice For All.' When I was getting into metal, that album was a big push for me.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Deion: All That Remains - Overcome. To me it symbolizes a transcendence of something through inner strength, which is what we stand for above all else.
Tim: Ozzy Osborne 'The Ultimate Sin'. That would scare away any wild animals on the island.
Brett: Iron Maiden's 'Killer'. The best cover in my opinion.
Byron: Legacy Of Kings - Hammerfall, because why wouldn’t you want a badass humanoid sitting like royalty on the wall?
Kyle: Slipknot's first album cover. It represents such a raw and wild era. And we are trapped on an island; shit's about to get wild.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Deion: Margaritas!
Tim: Crown and Coke
Brett: Coronas to make it feel like we're on vacation haha
Byron: Crown and Coke
Kyle: Keystone Light. Can't go wrong with the stone. Budget beer for life.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Deion: Killswitch Engage shirt
Tim: I still have a t-shirt from one of my first bands, Mystic Fix. Must be an antique by now.
Brett: The container that we store our own merch in, so I have something to put all my coconuts in, haha
Byron: I can't decide on which band, but it would definitely be a t-shirt.
Kyle: Statutory Ape shirt from The Black Dahlia Murder.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Deion: My bandmates are pretty great, buuuuut not as great as Gandalf the Gray. At some point he'd disappear and come back as Gandalf the Ocean Blue or something with the Navy at his back in the light of the morning dawn.
Tim: Kate Beckinsale.
Brett: No one really. We're in a shitty situation I wouldn't want to put anyone in, and I know all these dudes work hard. So the band being shipwrecked would probably be our best bet of getting out alive.
Byron: I don't know; they’re a pretty awesome group of guys. But, my ol' lady, unless the “band wives” were already with us.
Kyle: Other than doing shows or band stuff, I'm somewhat of an introvert. So I would have been at peace suffering alone.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Deion: Nick Hipa of As I Lay Dying/Wovenwar. He's the first one that came to mind and I'm not even sure why.
Tim: I'm sending the message to Ozzy. He can fly in on his bat and rescue us.
Brett: Anyone from slipknot because they have the most members to save us.
Byron: I would imagine someone from The Police. Or Machine Head. Haha
Kyle: 100% Bruce Dickinson. He owns/pilots a plane. Done deal.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Deion: I mean... I feel like Tim would have more flavour than everyone else.
Tim: I'd sacrifice myself. I have enough fat on me to last the others a while.
Brett: Damn dude...Tim I guess. I think he's the biggest dude out of us all.
Byron: Knowing them asshats, probably me haha
Kyle: Offer myself for the good of the many. By this point everything has been done/said. Time to go haha
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Deion: Oli Herbert (RIP). That guy influenced my style so much and it pushed me to strive to be a better guitarist.
Tim: Brandon Saller, singer for Atreyu.
Brett: Man, I'd have to go with Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold. He pretty much got me picking up a guitar and jamming.
Byron: Geddy Lee
Kyle: Brann Dailor. In the hopes that he'd show me some of the crazy stuff he pulls off.
