DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Segmentia
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Segmentia sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Matti: I chose Varjoina Kuljemme Kuolleiden Maassa by Moonsorrow. It’s an album that just keeps on giving! Everytime I listen to it I notice a mew detail.
Kansana: Mine would be Razorblade Romance by HIM. It never gets old, this album has coloured so many memories trough my life that it has a special place in my heart.
Arttu: My choice is Nevermind by Nirvana. Over 30 years old and it still kicks ass!
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Matti: I’ve always liked the cover of From Mars To Sirius by Gojira. Space and whales are both cool!
Kansana: Behemoth’s Satanic album cover. Just because that was the first that popped into my mind!
Arttu: August Burns Red - Messenger. I think it has nice and calm vibe to it.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Matti: Water! The entirety of the stay wouldn’t be too long without water, regardless of how boring that answer may be.
Kansana: Me too, water! It just is my favourite drink, even in a fancy restaurant.
Arttu: I think my choice would be cold beer.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Matti: A Slayer t-shirt!
Kansana: Prodigy underwear! I could also borrow that Slayer T-shirt, Matti can go around naked.
Arttu: Eläkeläiset t-shirt.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Matti: That’s easy! With MacGyver obviously! He would find an escape in few minutes.
Kansana: Albus Dumbledore. He always has an ace in his sleeve.
Arttu: Guthrie Govan. He is the best guitarist in the world so he could teach me how to play!
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Matti: Any Pain live-show! I saw them live for the first time recently and was totally blown away!
Kansana: Sólstafir live show. The one they played here in Finland, Jyväskylä. That was maybe 10 or 12 years ago already. Oh sweet memories.
Arttu: Some Avenged Sevenfold show would be nice.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Matti: Bruce Dickinson. He could fly us out!
Kansana: Christina Aguilera. We’ll see if she really is a genie in a bottle.
Arttu: I think Matti has a right answer for this one!
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Matti: I could be the one. I have the most to eat!
Kansana: Yup. Matti that is.
Arttu: Matti is the one!
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Matti: Devin Townsend.
Kansana: That would be my father.
Arttu: Kurt Cobain
