Bloodstock Bound: Uridium
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Uridium!
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Uridium: Hi, we’re Uridium. A five-piece metal band founded by Gary Vescio on guitar and backing vocals, Paul Cutting on guitar, Ian Hill (Slug) on bass and backing vocals, James Morgan on drums and Cameron Brown on lead vocals.
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?
Uridium: We’re a thrash inspired, high energy metal band with old-school style riffs, tons of shredding solos complimented by lead vocals that smoothly transition from melodic gruffness to full on growling when the music calls for it. Our inspiration comes from legends of heavy metal such as Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Motorhead, Judas Priest… the list goes on!
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Uridium: We have this amazing opportunity from winning the East Anglia leg of M2TM which was held in our hometown of Norwich.
The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?
Uridium: Hell yeah it was a tough competition! There is a plethora of incredible metal bands in Norwich alone, you then consider the rest of East Anglia and we really had our work cut out. A massive shout out to all our loyal fans that made the M2TM competition such a memorable experience and to all the bands that competed as they all deserve a spot at Bloodstock.
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Uridium: As fans of Bloodstock Open Air, the awesome ethos of the festival and all the incredible bands that play, we have been talking and dreaming about this opportunity for a long time. Since our win in the M2TM final, all we can really think about is the band and how much we are going to enjoy Bloodstock this year. I think we’re all guilty of visiting the Bloodstock website and switching between stage lineups, seeing our band name alongside Killswitch Engage, Meshuggah and Megadeth is just amazing!
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Uridium: People who have never seen us live before can expect high energy from start to finish. They should be ready for 30 minutes of heavy metal party time and should have a beer in hand. We’re a band that writes and plays songs that you can sing along to, so listen to our EP and learn the words. We love to have fun on stage and although we take our music seriously, we’re there to ROCK and party with the people!
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Uridium: We’re playing the New Blood Stage on Friday 11th August.
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Uridium: We could pretty much just list the lineup and we’ve all got slightly different tastes but this is our individual take on things.
Cameron – Saturday is my day for bands! Crowbar, Knocked Loose and by far Meshuggah for me is a top pick. I saw them back in 2013 in Norwich with Animals as Leaders when I was a lil’ sprog, they blew my mind! I’ll be in the pit for that. Candle mass on the Sophie Stage, proper into them so really looking forward to popping down after seeing a bit of Killswitch. Decapitated, Sepultura and most definitely Megadeth are a must, I last saw Megadeth at Knebworth when they did the big 4 at Sonisphere. Also the lads in Tortured Demon on Sophie Stage, we’ve got a gig with them in Norwich in October so will be good to check them out. Really excited all round, a killer line up this year as per every Bloodstock really!
James – I absolutely love In Flames, potentially my highlight of Bloodstock this year, but I’m also really looking forward to the energy of Killswitch Engage, the bone breaking riff machine that is Crowbar, and of course the mighty Megadeth. Also, I’ve recently been listening to All Hail The Yeti and have really been enjoying them so look forward to seeing what they have to offer live.
Paul – I really want to see Megadeth, In Flames, Killswitch Engage, Elimination and Tortured Demon.
Gary – Really looking forward to In Flames, Sacred Reich, Abbath, Meshuggah, Megadeth, Helloween, Decapitated, Elimination and Void Walker.
Slug – Mainly Helloween and Megadeth for me, just going to enjoy the atmosphere and plan to spend a lot of time at the New Blood Stage checking out other awesome ‘local’ bands.
We’re also keen to check out as many other bands playing on the New Blood and Jager Stage as we can.
The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Uridium: World domination! As great as that sounds our next step is to get lots of awesome gigs around the UK. We love playing live and performing in front of metal heads up and down the country and hope to get on a few festivals next year. We have released an EP this year called ‘In For The Kill’ which we’re really proud of but we would also like to get in the studio again and get an album recorded.
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Uridium: Yes, we’ll be camping with the fans. We’ll actually be split between Asgard near the toilet block in the dwelling of ‘Camp Norfuck’ and the campervan field.
The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?
Uridium: Beer, whiskey, rum and cider. Some water here and there.
The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!
