Bloodstock Bound: Beyond Your Design

Bloodstock Bound: Beyond Your Design

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Beyond Your Design!

The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.

Beyond Your Design: We are Beyond Your Design from the East Midlands. I am Rob on lead vocals and guitar, with Harry on guitar, Chayce on bass and Fireman Sam on drums.

The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?

Beyond Your Design: Our sound is reminiscent of 2000's metalcore. We have some injection of melodic metal and modern metal and share influences with Trivium, Darkest Hour, and Arch Enemy. If you like the chugga chugga and the widdly widdly, you'll love us!

The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

Beyond Your Design: Sexual favours.

And Beyond Your Design also won the Metal 2 The Masses Nottingham event. This was our third time partaking in the M2TM initiative having done Leicester and Leeds prior, but for obvious reasons; this was by far our favourite one.

The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?

Beyond Your Design: Metal 2 The Masses Nottingham was some of the toughest competition we've ever gone up against. Having shared rounds with two previous winners (28 Double and Pariah), we knew exactly what was needed to win going into the competition.

We knew there were many Nottingham bands who stood a very strong chance of winning, so we made it our mission to deliver an unforgettable performance each night. And I'm very proud of the development we've made across each round in prep for Bloodstock!

The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

Beyond Your Design: Playing Bloodstock is a monumental achievement in our band's career.

It's the premier heavy metal event of the year and its reputation has only grown over recent times. The sense of community and unity is legendary. I've attended Bloodstock since 2015, where I saw my idols Trivium perform. Chayce has attended for the previous few years, and we can both vouch for how welcoming and special Bloodstock is to those who attend.

The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

Beyond Your Design: They can expect to be entertained!

The audience is the primary focus of every Beyond Your Design live show. Our aim is to create an inclusive, energetic and exciting experience for everyone present. Live music has always been an escapism to help move away from the mundane of everyday life. To forget the mire and unite in an environment with like-minded individuals that share an appreciation for heavy music.

Bloodstock Bound: Beyond Your Design

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?

Beyond Your Design: Beyond Your Design will be playing the New Blood Stage on Sunday 13th August.

The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

Beyond Your Design: Oh man, the lineups are always exceptional!

Meshuggah and Knocked Loose will be a highlight. I've personally wanted to see Killswitch Engage, Decapitated and In Flames for so many years. But I think I speak for all of us when I say that so many of our friends are playing this year that it's an honour to have our name included amongst them!

Those Once Loyal and Daybreaker on the Jager stage are gonna be sick! InVisions on the Sophie Stage we know will kill it. Plus our friends in Broken Calling, Devils Henchmen, Elimination, Nameless, Bloodmores, Outergods, and To Obey A Tyrant on the New Blood will be incredible as always!

The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

Beyond Your Design: Probably sleep haha!

But after that, we're looking to spread the message of BYD further than ever before. We've not long got back from touring Ireland, and we've already begun looking at heading to Europe.

We've got new music in the works for our debut album. Obviously, it will be our heaviest and most diverse sound to date...

And lastly, we're looking to play bigger and better support slots! Maybe we'll make a return to Bloodstock in the coming years? We'd not be opposed to it.

The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?

Beyond Your Design: This year we'll be camping with the fans. Midgard is where the parties at! I actually camped sober for the first time last year, and it was magical watching the beauty of metalheads trying to assemble a tent after one too many beers haha.

The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?

Beyond Your Design: WATER. Water. Water. Please drink as much water as possible. It's meant to be a hot one, and we don't want anyone getting dehydrated during the weekend.

Failing that...cat piss.

The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock next week!

Beyond Your Design: We've been Beyond Your Design. We'll be on the New Blood Stage early on the Sunday. Come down and be ready to mosh with us!
