DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Blackened Rose
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Blackened Rose vocalist Aleksei Iagunkov sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
It’s damn hard to choose one! I should have chosen “Back Through Time” by Alestorm because it has the song “Shipwrecked” on it! Suits the situation, you know! 😉
But also in all honesty, maybe it would be something by HIM? Love that band!
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Badass album covers? Powerwolf’s “The Sacrament of Sin”! That one is an absolute masterpiece. I hope that will be the only wolf on that island! 😆
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Whiskey & cola all the way! Jägermeister might take the second place and vodka can kick us to sleep in the insomniac nights.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
I would have said the signed poster from H.E.A.T., but I definitely wouldn’t have taken that with me on tour. Can we please save a guitar instead? Or well, at least my “Birth. School. Metallica. Death.” shirt...
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Bear Grylls? That would be handy! 😆
I mean, the dude knows how to survive, maybe he’d help here. ;D
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
First of all, where have you found a good working walkman? I have a cassette collection and because walkmen are not produced anymore, it’s so hard to find a good one! But okay, I agree to the rules. That concert would be when H.e.a.t came to Sydney last year. It was such a memorable show for me! The energy was through the roof, I think I lost my voice too, while singing along... It was so great! I would love to live through it again.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
I think it would be Luan [Medeiros, drums]. He is the oldest in our band, he lived in another country (Brazil), he has more life experience. I am sure he will come up with something!
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
I think I will pass on this question not only not to offend anyone in the band, but also because I feel I don’t have the right to decide who will live and who will die. This is not Sophie’s Choice, you know!
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
This is a really hard, but, ah, if Peter Steele lived, it would be him. The man was such a legend with a great sense of humour and personality. And with such a tragic life story... And I am 90% sure Erick [Perdomo-Borelly, guitars] would choose Steve Vai. He even mentioned him as the inspiration for one of our own songs!
