DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring The Loners

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring The Loners

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find The Loners sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Mark: The Deftones 'White Pony'. Its great mix of melody and guitars, brutal and beautiful all in one.

James: 10,000 Maniacs 'The Wishing Chair'. They are my favourite band and I just love everything about their music!

Nath: This is very difficult. Right now I am listening to a lot of Kasabian. So lets go with their first album. I love their mix of guitar music and dance. Nothing sounds like them and I don’t think anyone is touching them, either!

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

James: Joy Division 'Unknown Pleasures'. I remember seeing it and reading it was pulsar radio waves. I thought that was pretty cool.

Mark: Blink-182 'Enema of the State'. I thought it was funny seeing “the nurse” on the front cover, putting gloves on, tying in with the name of the album.

Nath: The Beatles 'Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band' only because there is a lot going on, with a lot of different faces so that would keep me busy, on the island! HA!

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Nath: On an island, surely it would be dark rum? Or red wine!

Mark: I like cider, but I also like red wine.

James: Beer, IPA but I too like red wine.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Nath: I am a massive Stone Roses fan, so anything related to them would keep me happy.

Mark: I am listening to The Hives at the moment, so probably a Hives t-shirt!

James: I love Billy Ocean’s 'Red Light Spells Danger' so that on a t-shirt would be good.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

James: I think we will all have the same answer here…haha!

Nath: Yeah I think the readers will know where we are going with this… haha!

Mark: I am the same as these guys, although for the sake of staying alive, you would probably want someone who can survive in the wild like Ray Mears or Bear Grills.

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring The Loners

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Nath: Nirvana 'Live and Loud' they were amazing and this album is amazing.

Mark: Green Day 'Unplugged'. For me, they were at their prime, here.

James: Fleetwood Mac 'Live in Boston'. This was a great performance, by all of them!

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Mark: Dave Grohl. He just seems so nice and he probably has enough money to search the world.

Nath: Same as Mark’s answer. Dave would search for you and then cook a bbq once we were found!!

James: haha yes I agree with them, both.

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Nath: The drummer… it’s always the drummer haha!

Mark: Probably Nath hahaha

James: Yes, we will kill off, Nath.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

James: Again, Dave Grohl. He is just such a nice chap. I read is book – he’s done everything, been through everything and still come out a good guy on the other side.

Mark: David Bowie. He really changed it all for everyone. He turned his hand to every genre of music and we all loved it.

Nath: Prince. I think I read he could play 27 instruments. Wasn’t it just him who recorded and played all instruments for his first (if not more) album. Plus he wasn’t just average at whatever he did, he was ridiculously good at everything… and he was very cool!
