DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Fortune Teller
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Fortune Teller sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Lee: I grabbed "Blink-182 (self-titled)" because Its a blend of catchy melodies and has lyrics that would be familiar during our time stranded on this island.
Aaron: My choice was "Whitesnake (self-titled)". The lead guitar in that album is incredible! Plus listening to “Here I go again” would be uplifting when trying to survive
Josh: I went with "Does This Look Infected?" by Sum 41 because it's a high-octane punk rock masterpiece. Its infectious hooks would inject some much-needed adrenaline into our daily survival efforts on this island.
Mason: My pick was "Wishful Thinking" by Neck Deep. This album's blend of pop-punk anthems and heartfelt lyrics would serve as a beacon of hope in our time of uncertainty.
Luke: It would have to be 'Ribbons' by Bibio. Completely off our own genre, but that album has something for every vibe! Lounging on the beach, to sobbing because we're stuck? It certainly provides!
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Mason: "My album cover would have to be 'Till the Wheels Fall Off' by WSTR because the art style is awesome, and the content of it is chaotic."
Lee: I'd go with the album cover of 'hard-off' by Bloodhound Gang. it's just a little bit absurd.
Josh: Lit: A Place in the Sun. Seems fitting given the circumstances.
Aaron: American Football - Self Titled, just in case I miss home... I guess?
Luke: License to Ill from Beastie Boys — that plane on the cover is manifesting, baby!
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Josh: Mojitos, hundo.
Lee: I'd go for a virgin piña colada. island vibes without the alcohol.
Aaron: Spiced Rum n Coke.
Luke: Double Hendricks G&T all day. Garnish included obviously...
Mason: Jameson’s whiskey if we're talking alcohol or apple juice if not.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Aaron: The white Snake hoodie for sure!
Luke: A hat would probably be the vibe, but just in case we're sh*t at making a fire, I'm taking my Knuckle Puck hoodie!
Mason: There is a Hell Hoodie by Bring Me because it was the first bit of merch I ever bought myself.
Lee: I managed to salvage a Hot Mulligan hat from their tour with Knuckle Puck. It's a cherished piece of pop-punk memorabilia.
Josh: The Story So Far tee
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Aaron: Tom Hanks (and Wilson) got off an island once; he can do it again.
Luke: Bear Grylls ini, ever slept inside a camel?... Me neither.
Mason: I’d rather have been shipwrecked with someone who knows how to make a f****ng raft, so we don’t have to stay on this rock.
Lee: Bob ross, watch him paint for hours to pass the time.
Josh: Scooby Doo and the rest of Mystery Inc. I saw what they did on Spooky Island, Devil's Island sounds just as messed up.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Aaron: Sonic Adventure 2 Official Soundtrack! It’s a great game and some great songs (Crush 40!)
Luke: Bloc Party live at Glasto 2007. Definitely wasn't there but I wish I was! (golden years of indie riffs). Now, where's the pencil to fix the cassette?
Mason: The show on the Walkman is the 1999 Warped Tour set by Blink 182.
Lee: On that walkman, you'll find a recording of New Found Glory's "Kill It Live" album.
Josh: Chester Bennington's last ever Linkin Park show at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on July 6th, 2017. Hands down one of the best live shows I've ever been to, I could listen over and over.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Aaron: Sting, I'm sure he'd find it hilarious.
Luke: Curveball, Jamiroquai! He definitely has a private jet, doesn't he?
Mason: Parker Canon, if the rescue attempt fails, he can help me write lyrics for the next EP.
Lee: Who do I pen my desperate plea to? Mark Hoppus, the heartbeat of Blink-182.
Josh: The Lonely Island, didn't you hear? They're on a boat! There's your rescue attempt right there!
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Aaron: Mason.
Luke: Mason.
Lee: Mason.
Josh: Mason.
Mason: ....... I guess I'm outnumbered.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Aaron: Damn too many to choose from… I guess it would have to be Padge from BFMV
Luke: Call me Noah because I'd have to cram too many musicians on that boat. If we're picking one, it would have to be Dave Grohl, because like me, he doesn't know what chords he's playing either. Play it 'til it sounds good!
Mason: The musician who shaped my writing is Ben Barlow.
Lee: If I could only save one person, it had to be Tom DeLonge. His music, from Blink-182 to Angels & Airwaves, has been the soundtrack to my life.
Josh: Deryck Whibley, the man has soundtracked my life and without that influence I wouldn't be involved in music today
