DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Godeth
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Godeth sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Miles: Rage Against The Machine's debut album. It shaped my musical and political views as a lad.
Danny: Godeth The Path Of Destruction 😁 because it’s the best
Dylan: Rammstein – Sehnsucht as it’s a perfect album.
Luke: Avenged Sevenfold - Avenged Sevenfold, was a big album for me that helped inspire a lot of my song writing and I still go back to it when I low on inspiration.
Jimmy: Rage Against the Machine - self titled - I grabbed this as it is for me one of the most important albums for me personally. The riffs would stop me from going insane.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Miles: Again RATM's 1992 debut. It's just a perfect album and the image showing the brutal self immolation of Thích Quảng Đức in protest of the treatment of Buddhists in South Vietnam is just an incredible image and an poignant moment in history.
Danny: Green Day Dookie because it inspired me to become a musician and the inspiration to continue doing so comes from it.
Dylan: Cannibal Corpse – Tomb of the Mutilated in order to scare away any potential angry tribes who may want to kill us
Jimmy: Pearl Jam - Ten. The reason I’d put this one up, it would give me the idea that we’re all in this together (no highschool musical reference there) on this island and you need to try find joy somehow with the people I’m stuck with.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Miles: Depends. If its a fully kitted out bar then Amaretto Sours. If we just working with a basic setup then San Miguel.
Danny: Red Bull
Dylan: As its gonna be warm, ill go with something fruity so a Banana Colada
Luke: Monkey Shoulder - smooth session whisky.
Jimmy: Got to play it sensible on this occasion, it’s got to be good old water.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Miles: A new release merch from Knocked Loose for their 'Upon Loss' singles release.
Danny: The Casualties Written in Blood t shirt because it’s my favourite album.
Dylan: My Type O Negative Bloody Kisses long sleeve.
Luke: My Axewould bracelet I got in 2012, it says "fuck me, fuck you, fuck everything" and it encapsulates how edgy I was back then.
Jimmy: It would be boiling during the day but cold at night I’d imagine, so it would have to a long-sleeve. I’ll go with a Khublai Khan piece.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Miles: Literally anyone else. Wankers.
Danny: James Hetfield because we both know how to hunt, so the more of us can provide food the better.
Dylan: My girlfriend Beth (if she’s unavailable, then Marcelo Bielsa).
Luke: I feel like I'm meant to say my wife? But I don't think my girlfriend would like it.
Jimmy: It would have to be my Mrs, Charlotte.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Miles: Nirvana live at The Paramount 1991.
Danny: KISS Manchester 2023, favourite live show.
Dylan: Gojira at Bloodstock 2018.
Luke: Bullet For My Valentine - 1st December 2013, was an absolutely fantastic show and makes me remember simpler times.
Jimmy: Black Sabbath - L’olympia in Paris 1970. I always remember the first time watching clips of this on the internet and found my self infatuated with both the sounds and the presence of the entire band, each member inspired me heavily. The sheer power that was created has forever stuck with me.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Miles: Ermm. Corpsegrinder. I dunno. He seems resourceful.
Danny: Bruce Dickinson because he can fly a rescue plane.
Dylan: Like Dan, I'm going Bruce Dickinson for the same reason.
Luke: Idk someone really hard. Whoever the Bear Grylls of metal is.
Jimmy: I’m not gonna ask Bruce to come pick me up in a private jet. I’ll seek help through Dave Grohl, because if anyone is saving you it’s got to be him? Surely? The nicest guy in rock.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Miles: Myself. Fuck it. 🙂
Danny: Dylan, sorry bro 😂😂 you were the first one to come up when I pressed @
Dylan: Myself I assume haha.
Luke: I feel like it'd be me, I got the most meat on my bones but I'm also the hardest.
Jimmy: Go on then, I’ll take the hit.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Miles: Jonathan Davis.
Danny: Joey Jordison because he’s the reason I started playing drums.
Dylan: Jerry Cantrell
Luke: For me I guess it's Matt Tuck.
Jimmy: Personally I’d have to go with Kurt Cobain, I connect a lot to his story of life, being the outcast but being extroverted at the same time. Struggling with the battle of the mind and fighting it through powerful music. I also appreciated his political views
