Album Review: Smorrah - Welcome To Your Nightmare
Reviewed by Drew McCarthy
An unsettling and ferocious debut album, courtesy of German natives Smorrah.
Taking the listener on an unsettling journey into the darkest reaches of the human mind, Smorrah are unleashing their first full length album, ‘Welcome To Your Nightmare’ which is the follow up to their debut EP ‘The Evil Within’ that was released back in 2018.
The album was produced, mixed & mastered by Michael Streckbein and by the band themselves at Vyrah Studios and the cover art was done by Timon Kokott Artwork. Coincidentally, the cover of this album, reminds me of the cover of the album Dream Evil by Dio. ‘Welcome To Your Nightmare’ is the combined effort of Vocalist, Marius Wegener, Guitarist, Daniel ‘Pumper’ Hartmann, & Bassist & Drummer, Christian ‘Kraje’ Krajewski & Raphael Swierczynski.
‘Welcome To Your Nightmare' is an uncompromising and at times groove laden Metal album, reminiscent at times of Killswitch Engage. The album begins with an unsettling audio track, before it unexpectedly segues to the visceral and raw angst of the title track, which is led by harsh and gut wrenching vocals, while the other members of Smorrah, bring an almost Pantera-esque groove to the song.
‘Dead Snake Eyes’ is where the Thrash Metal influence comes to the forefront, with almost unhinged drumming and melodic guitar playing, while still retaining the animositic nature of the album.
‘Welcome To Your Nightmare' sounds less like a debut album and more like the work of a band that have been playing together for years, which bodes very well for the longevity of metal.
