EP Review: Bodyfarm – Malicious Ecstasy
Reviewed by Drew McCarthy
The death metallers from Utrecht have created four brand new songs, with the first two songs in particular, being surprisingly quite technical and showing that Bodyfarm can do more than just the usual death metal fair, though it does not pack quite the same punch as their previous releases.
For me personally, Onward Doomsday and especially the slower, Gates of Malignancy (which is very much in the same vein as my favourite Bodyfarm song The Swamp, from the last album Ultimate Abomination) are the highlights of this album, especially because the latter has a great dark and foreboding vibe to it.
Thinking again though of the song, The Swamp, it is also featured on the second part of this album, which consists of five songs recorded live at a gig in Krakow on March the 14th, 2023.
A live recording depends on the reaction of the audience and unfortunately on the live tracks, you cannot really hear the reactions of the assembled crowd. However saying that, it is always good to hear classics like The Dark Age in a live setting.
