DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Sunflower Fox & the Chicken Leg

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Sunflower Fox & the Chicken Leg sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Kaity: Rumors. Hands down. That album is next to perfection. There are so many great hits on it and there’s so much variety. You can really just get lost in it!

Mike: Appetite For Distruction. From front to back, every song is great… Listen to it once, then listen to it again!

Kyle: Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory by Dream Theater. It’s a concept album that tells a story. The lyrics alone will keep you entertained. Every song also touches a different genre; one song is gospel, the next is super-proggy, followed by a metal track.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Kaity: Toys in the Attic. That album cover used to scare the hell out of me as a kid but it’s SUCH A GOOD album cover. The art work is just fan freaking tastic.

Kyle: Somewhere in Time – Iron Maiden. There is so much detail and lots of hidden easter-eggs buried throughout the artwork.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Kaity: Hamms Beer. Damnit I love a hamms. . I mean if it isn’t water…which honestly I drink an absurd amount of water. But also…triple espressos. I’m kind of a beverage goblin. This would be hard for me!

Mike: I'd probably have to go Jack and Coke. That is a lot of sugar, so you'd have to just drink the whiskey a lot of the time.

Kyle: Jack and Diet. We aren’t all as skinny as Mike.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Kaity: Back in the mid 2000’s The Simpsons did some hilarious collabs with The Rolling Stones for T Shirts. I’d want something like that. They’re so ridiculous. Combines my two fav things-the simpsons and 70s rock.

Mike: Not realistic, but my GN’R pinball machine. Not only is it cool, but fun to play and help pass the time.

Kyle: Not exactly merch, but my Paiste Powerslave ride cymbal. Nicko McBrain’s (Iron Maiden’s drummer) signature ride cymbal. At least I would have something to play…. I actually own two of them….maybe when the ship was sinking, I grabbed both….

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Kaity: My cat. He’s adorable and can hunt little creatures, keep me warm. I mean this is a good idea right?! If one of us dies…we eat each other. Omg…this is so dark. (This is the worst cuz he literally just passed away two days ago!!)

Mike: My girlfriend.

Kyle: My chihuahua Tito. He eats more than I do though, so he probably would not last long…

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Sunflower Fox & the Chicken Leg

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Kaity: I know this is a canned but Cheap Trick Live at Budokan in 79’ is …the only answer.

Mike: GN’R Paris 92’. Great show with guest appearances by Aerosmith and Lenny Kravitz.

Kyle: Flight 666 – Iron Maiden. Are you sensing a theme here?

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Kaity: Bruce Dickinson! He’s got a damn plane! And a nice one! And Iron Maiden seems like the kind of band that would rescue a bunch of degenerates off an island..

Mike: I'll say Bruce as well.

Kyle: I’m torn. Bruce can fly his 747. But Dave Grohl wrote that song for those trapped Australian miners and promised to have beers with them. Not too far off from that desert island…

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Kaity: Alright. It’s gonna be the Rhythm Section. Kyle is the youngest and Craig is nice and muscley. hahahah omg. I’m going to hell.

Mike: WTF… ha

Kaity: HAHAHAHAHAH

Kyle: I’ll volunteer myself on the condition that they have to start with my a$$

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Kaity: Ann Wilson of Heart. I mean I literally changed my last name to heart because they mean so much to me! Her voice, phrasing and songwriting are completely insane. She is the reason I got into music. I owe her everything.

Mike: Slash. His guitar playing has influenced me a ton, and his influences of Jimmy Page, Rory Gallagher, the Aerosmith guys, the Stones guys, Clapton, Hendrix, and Joe Walsh show through.

Kyle: Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden. I rescued his cymbals too I guess?
