DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Room11

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Room11

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Room11 sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Chrisy: Jeez, that’s a tough question. My first thought was ‘We All Fall Down’, by us, ROOM11, as I love listening to our records, but it’s an EP and not an album, so, second to mind was Grace, by Jeff Buckley - what a stunningly beautiful album. Paranoid and Sunburnt (Skunk Anansie) was considered, as was Make Yourself (Incubus) and System of a Down, but I think, for the sake of beauty, we are keeping Jeff Buckley with us on this Island, as Chrisy likes swimming under water, so it makes makes sense :/

Robbie: Mm I would definitely say (Made In Japan) by Deep Purple, the best live album ever made without a doubt!! I was completely brainwashed by my older brother when I was a boy and got me into heavy rock and to play guitar.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Robbie: I've never been a poster on the wall person but in this case I would have to go with "Master Of Puppets" by Metallica it makes me reflect a lot about war and who's in control of the soldiers lives and another country's destiny - still relevant nowadays.

Chrisy: Marilyn Manson, Holywood, because I worshipped that poster as a sprogling, but Chocolate Starfish and the wee wee juice would also be in there, as it’s from my generation 😉

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Chrisy: Jameson, on ice; anywhere. But wobbly Robbie loves his dark and spiced rum - beach classic filth.

Robbie: It has to be dark rum and coke or ginger beer for me, really enjoy the way you can feel the alcohol but still feel energetic and not drowsy, specially on an island, fresh!!

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Chrisy: I can use my old Vintage 1993 Brockum Collection ‘Guns N Roses’ Belt Buckle to hold stuff together and smack Robbie over the head at night when he tries to romp my leg - he’s rabid!

Robbie: Ha ha 🙂 well the only piece of merch I own from a band is an Ozzy Osborne tote bag and a David Bowie tea towel, defo the latter, the tote bag can get lost!

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Chrisy: Well, love him or hate him, Robbie is the best person to be stuck on the island with; he’s smart, funny and very kind. Love him! Plus he makes a mean, morning coffee.

Robbie: I'll be happy to be on a deserted island with PJ Harvey, sorry Chrisy 🙂

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Room11

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Robbie: It is "On Stage" by Rainbow - how did u know I had a Walkman?!?! 🙂

Chrisy: First thought, Oasis MTV Unplugged live at the Royal Festival Hall, London, England UK 23rd August 1996, because Noel is badass and Lium is a twat. This is a very hard video to find, today. But then, nah…Incubus, Morning View Sessions Concert was sick! Gavin Koppel and José Pasillas are next level here. Ahhh, but then nah…my favourite of all time has to be Bjork Live at The Royal Albert Hall 2001 (released 2002). This performance is second to none - phenomenal!

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Robbie: I would send it to Sting saying "stay where you are! I'm having a great time here!" 🙂

Chrisy: Come on, that’s a trick question. Obviously we’re supposed to say, Sting. But this ain’t no love story and I ain’t looking for no soul mate; I got my G - wobbly Robbie. I’m thinking Brian May, ‘cause the dude’s smart - like, he could build us a spaceship or some shit.

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Chrisy: Robbie, sorry bro, but it’s just the two of us (for now). Get out the salt and pepper.

Robbie: I would go fishing sharks using Chrisy as bait, he's quite meaty 🙂

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Robbie: It would be Ritchie Blackmore, it's because of him I became a musician.

Chrisy: Butcho - you know who you are. An old friend who saved my life. If I could, I would save his.
