DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Drenched

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Drenched

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Drenched sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Mak - I’m probably gonna be grabbing ‘Whatever people think I am, that’s what I’m not’ by the Arctic Monkeys. Every song on that album is a banger, and it’s been almost 20 years and I can still listen to it and love it.

Mike - I’d say Tool’s 10000 Days. The album has a wide range of emotions and feelings which would help me while I'm stranded, as well as every song just being an absolute 10.

Marc - I would have to go with there is nothing left to lose by foo fighters. I can’t name one song on that album that isn’t amazing and I could listen to that album over and over again and never get sick of it.

Callum - Superheaven - Jar. It’s one of the only albums I can listen to back to front and enjoy every song.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Mak - I actually have this up in my own room, but it’s Lateralus by Tool. If I ever got bored, I could probably just find some Devil Island lettuce and stare at it for a while, which would fill in a couple hours.

Mike - I’d go for Fiends’ “Me Time”. Not only does the album have some great tracks, but the cover is one of my all-time favourites. It would maybe spook me a little at night time, however 🙁

Marc - I think follow the leader by korn would definitely be the favourite. It’s such an iconic design and I love everything about it.

Callum - Higher Power - Absolute Bloom. The artwork is done by the vocalist ‘Jimmy Wizard’ who is an artist/ tattoo artist whose work I enjoy.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Mak - Caribbean Crush, made by the man himself Levi Roots. Imagine just chilling on an island, wee tan going on, birds flying around, cold Caribbean crush. Bari.

Mike - Most likely feeling a little homesick, get me a sweet sweet IRN BRU… nectar. However I’d also find some water on the island, I would like to keep my teeth if possible.

Marc - I’d have to push it for a nice cold monster energy ultra rose, isn’t the healthiest of choices but definitely what keeps me going most days.

Callum - An ice cold Coors light

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Mak - Would probably be my Tool hat, as it would protect me from the sun and stop eagles dropping turtles on my massive head .

Mike - Why of course it would be a beautiful Drenched T-shirt (available at all shows, please come and buy one so we can afford to eat, thank you x)

Marc - Ironically I would have to choose my old deftones around the fur t-shirt. It’s always the go to.

Callum - The classic Nirvana smiley face jumper. It’s timeless.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Mak - Neil Warnock. Because no matter how bad it gets, he’s dragging us out the mud and keeping us going. Plus he seems like a guy who likes a sunshine holiday.

Mike - Batman, enough said.

Marc - I would say Dave Grohl would definitely be no1 for me. Couldn’t think of any one else I'd rather spend the rest of my days with, think of all of the story’s he would have to share.

Callum - Will have to go with my girlfriend, just in case she reads this.

Devil's Island featuring Drenched

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Mak - Rage Against the Machine live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium. I could just listen to the bass on that album for hours and not get bored.

Mike - Metallica, Seattle 89’. I remember first watching this when I was 14/15, getting goosebumps replaying “The Four Horseman” over and over. Every song is probably at least 30 bpm too fast, but that’s just part of its charm.

Marc - I would have to go with nirvana unplugged for that one. Such an easy choice as it is still one of my favourite live performances to watch and listen to.

Callum - Higher Power live at Outbreak fest 2022. The sound quality of the performance is great and they played all my favorite Higher Power songs.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Mak - Sting. He seems like he knows what to do.

Mike - If I'm relying on a member of Drenched, then I'm afraid you won't be seeing or hearing from me again.

Marc - Obviously pat smear from foo fighters. Is there anything he can’t do?

Callum - Steve Vai. The man’s like 7 foot tall so I feel like that would come in handy… I’m 5”6 🙁

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Mak - It’s probably gonna have to be me, because let’s be honest, you’re aren’t getting a sandwich out of Mike and Callum put together, and Marc’s been marinating in a sugar free monster for years.

Mike - I reckon we could try sacrificing Mak to one of the Devil's Island gods, I'm not sure they'd even want him, but it’s worth a try. I don't think I’d personally like him as a gift either.

Marc - I’m sorry but Mak would be the first. I don’t think Mike or Callum would have enough meat for very long.

Callum - Would have to go with Marc as he would provide the most protein because of his high chicken intake.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Mak - Tim Commerford from Rage Against the Machine. A lot of the way I play is massively influenced by him. From tone and bass lines, to gear and playing style/technique. Plus, he just seems like a really nice guy, and we could just chill and chat shit. Also seems the kinda guy to also love a Caribbean Crush

Mike - Besides Lil Wayne and his sweeeet guitar playing, I’d say Benny Greb is my biggest influence playing-wise. Man has just got groove for days. As well as being one of the best drummers alive, Benny seems like a very chill and wise man. I'm sure he’d be good crack.

Marc - Again, it would have to be Dave Grohl. As much as I would like to say Kurt Cobain, when I was young I always wanted to be like Dave and would learn and sing as many Foos songs as I could. So definitely Mr Grohl.

Callum - Kurt Cobain. I used to be completely obsessed with Nirvana and Kurt Cobain when I was younger and would read and watch everything about him. Even though they are not my favorite band anymore I still believe they inspired me the most.
