DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Beyond Salvation

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Beyond Salvation

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Beyond Salvation sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Jon: For me I’ll go with Sylosis Edge Of The Earth.. an album that really reinvigorated my love for metal at the time.

Arun: Machine Head - The Blackening

Luke: Slipknots gray chapter

Owen: Scenes From A Memory - Dream Theater. It’s a wonderfully complex, yet emotional journey from start to finish. I've listened to it countless times and I'm still hearing and discovering new elements. It's an album that just never gets old for me!

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Jon: Chaos Ad by Sepultura

Arun: Alter Bridge - One Day Remains

Luke: Leviathan by mastodon

Owen: True Colours - Split Enz. I first saw this artwork when I was a kid, introduced to me by both my parents and every time I see or think about it, it reminds me of them.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Jon: Anything from Brewdog

Arun: Hawkstone lager. Or Yorkshire tea.

Luke: Easy Guiness!

Owen: A freezing and refreshing pint of Madri, please!

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Jon: A Fit For An Autopsy tee I have

Arun: Decapitated T-shirt

Luke: Cattle decapitation tour shirt 🤘🏻

Owen: The Mike Portnoy signature stick that I caught, when I saw Avenged Sevenfold for the first time in 2010 at Academy 1!

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Jon: My little lad Charlie

Arun: Lousie

Luke: Probably the guys in mushroomhead. All sound people and awesome to chat to (Jon : don’t tell his girlfriend he said gave this for his answer)

Owen: Nope, I'm cool with that... I know the guys in my band, they're awesome... everyone else might turn out to be d**kheads! Not worth the risk 😅

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Beyond Salvation

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Jon: Machine Head supporting Metallica Men Arena….. enough said 🙂

Arun: Machine Head and Slipknot at the MEN arena in December 2009

Luke: Black Sabbaths final Manchester show. Best live show I’ve ever been to and will forever be one I hold close to my heart. Seeing the fathers of metal do what they do best

Owen: Mike Portnoy's 'Shattered Fortress' show from the Koko in London! Best gig I've ever been to!

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Jon: Well not Owen … as it’d take too long for hm to reply being a drummer 😜😝😉… I’d say Luke as he could bring Daz’s van 😅

Arun: Probably Bruce Dickinson, as he’s a pilot. So would be able to fly to us and pick us up… 🤷🏾‍♂️

Luke: Lemmy. Bring Jack to save me

Owen: Sting… He'll always be watching you!

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Jon: MYSELF - so I wouldn't have to put any of your body parts in my mouth 🤢

Arun: I’d also choose myself. I could keep you guys fed for months! (What a disgusting thought)

Luke: Arun, but if we sacrifice Jon at least Arun could put some spices with

Owen: Arun... I love a good Indian!

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Jon: Toss up between Noel Gallagher and Rob Flynn. Oasis who got me into music / guitar music and Machine Head who got me into metal

Arun: Yeah probably Robb Flynn, or Dimebag Darrell.

Luke: Paul Gray. I need not say anymore

Owen: James 'The Rev' Sullivan (Still Alive) - Mike Portnoy
