Album Review: Emasculator - The Disfigured and the Divine
Reviewed by Dan Phipps
Formed from an international collection of women involved in the brutal death metal community Emasculator are scheduled to release the bands seven track debut through New Standard Elite in September. The release titled The Disfigured and Devine along with listing influences from death metal royalty is accompanied by stunning artwork from the band's vocalist Mallika Sundaramurthy.
The song writing for this release consisted of the sharing of ideas online and using the enthusiasm to craft this release and you certainly hear that bleed into the output that has been produced from the bands collaborative efforts. A collection of absolutely A+ riffs, combined with slick drums and huge vocals is what you are in store for throughout this release, and each track matches its predecessor in terms of creativity and musicianship. The production on the release is also absolutely flawless and razor sharp whilst not making the release seem mechanical.
Now for the criticism, to be honest I really wish this was a full length. Now I know asking an artist for more is kind of a selfish remark but these tracks are so solid, it left me wanting more and because of the flow of this release feels like it goes from the opening bars of it's opening to the closing riffs far too quickly. That is really my only grumble, a selfish one at that I will admit, but let's be honest it's left me eager for more so I can only hope that we can be treated to that sooner than later.
The Disfigured and Devine is a flawless musical display of brutal death metal at its finest. All business and no messing about, the band produces seven tracks of absolute mastery, perfect for fans of early Deeds of Flesh, Inveracity and pretty much any peak death metal act from that late 90’s to early 00’s period you can think of.
