Album Review: Oscillotron - Oblivion

Savage and unrelenting, Oblivion by Oscillotron is an unconventional piece of Drone Metal lasting one hour. Made up of swathes of guitar feedback and drone underpinned with luscious synth tones it is an exquisite experience to listen to, transcendental and otherworldly. This is a very heavy sound at first and may seem harsh but as you listen, as I find with most interesting drone and noise projects, textures make themselves apparent in the music as the human brain strives to make sense of what it is hearing and create some kind of patterns and recognisable form.

As an aid to sleep this album is a godsend and that is no criticism of the music and its repetition but more of a promotion of the mindset that one achieves when listening to it. It does bear mentioning that there is very little actual variation in the piece but what your mind makes of it, this could be a negative to some listeners.

Album Review: Oscillotron – Oblivion

Formed by David Johansson, frontman of Kongh since 2004 and touring guitarist for Cult of Luna between 2013-2019 the music does conjure up memories and associations of both of these bands yet has a life and atmosphere of its own. It is very much an acquired taste but listeners who tend to journey in the further regions of experience will find much to like in this album.
