DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Peel

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Peel

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Peel sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Holten: I’ll go for the 1986 album “Scoundrel Days” by a-ha just because the last time I was shipwrecked and stranded on an island that album worked really well.

Pim: I’ll grab “Abbey Road”. Why? Why “Abbey Road”?? That album has it all…

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Pim: “Somewhere in Time” (Iron Maiden) Full of details so hours can be wasted staring at it when i’m done hunting, collecting coconuts and when beach life is getting boring…

Holten: I’ll go for Kiss “Alive”. That cover sums up everything about rock! And the title seems to fit..

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Pim: I avoid alcohol, but I guess a life on an island needs to be spiced up: Jack Daniels will for sure get me oblivious to the dreadful situation I’m caught in.

Holten: Devil’s Island iced tea for sure. It’s an evil drink, makes you do evil things.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Pim: My yellow Queen t-shirt with the print “We Will Rock You”!

Holten: I’ll save the version of the board game Monopoly that Metallica is selling on their website.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Holten: That’s a no brainer.Jennifer Lawrence. She can sing for me all night long, every night, for eternity.

Pim: Tom Hanks (and Wilson) would be useful companions. He did that documentary “Cast Away”, didn’t he? Must have at least a thousand tricks up his sleeve when it comes to surviving in a situation like this. Or maybe Bear Grylls…

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Pim: The Cure at Øyafestivalen in Oslo, 2019, for me it was magical in so many ways…

Holten: 2010, august 10th, also at Øyafestivalen in Oslo, Motorpsycho played their entire “Timothy‘s Monster” triple album and it was the most magical night ever.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Pim: Sting would obviously be fit as a recipient of a message in a bottle. He has been in a situation like this and got out of it. He’s got the experience and probably the skills needed for a rescue operation. I trust Sting. I think.

Holten: He’s also a police officer isn’t he? Those guys knows shit… I would send it to Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran for obvious reasons.

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Pim: I’m raising my hand here…I will give my life so that my friends might live. I‘m sure life on a desolate island is repetitive and I guess I will get tired of staring at the “Somewhere in Time” cover, and there are only so many coconuts and I will for sure run out of Jack Daniels, anyway… hellyeah, eat me (she said)...

Holten: I concur! I‘ll just cook up some Pim-Ribs while I wait for Simon Le Bon to come get me and Jennifer.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Pim: So many hands reaching out to be saved and I will pick John Lennon..no, Kurt Cobain..eh, Lemmy…David Bowie…Nope, Phil Lynott. Yeah, Lynott it is. He’s been with me all my life; he had it all!

Holten: Tricky.. I would have to go with David Eugene Edwards.
