DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Pvriah
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Pvriah sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Sam: The album I'd choose is Dark Side of the Moon. I'd like to listen to the track Breathe as I die of starvation.
Lewis: Green Day's American Idiot. My musical tastes tend to be a little heavier now but this is the first album I bought, the album that got me into rock, and made me determined to learn guitar. I wouldn't be the musician I am now without it.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
S: I'd put up the cover of Bloodhound Gang - Hard Off. Just in case I get a little frisky.
L: Probably one of the most iconic covers ever, Dark Side of the Moon. Simple and timeless.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
S: Buffalo Trace Whiskey for me. Just give me the bottle and I'll be fine.
L: Coffee isn’t rock and roll is it? In that case, Guinness! It’s a meal in itself.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
S: I'd take our last EP with us, just in case there are any natives out there so I can trade it for some coconuts or a chicken leg or something.
L: One cannot simply pick just one band top… but if I had to, comfort is essential right?! I had a Rammstein top I got when I saw them a few years ago, and for some unexplained reason it’s by far the most comfortable one I own.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
S: I would rather have been shipwrecked with Kate Beckinsale, I think you know why.
L: Any head of state. Surely there’d be a worldwide search for them and rescue wouldn’t be far away? We’re just a bunch of smelly musicians but I’m sure they’d let us on the chopper out of there. We could give them a free CD or something
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
S: I'd want to listen to Zeppelin's first gig on the walkman.
L: Live music is just on another level to studio recordings, so much more raw and engaging. I love too many to list but I’d probably have to settle on Rush’s Exit… Stage Left
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
S: I'd send the message to Sting from the Police. Surely he'd get my message in a bottle… he's the specialist in these things.
L: Bruce Dickinson. He's a pilot, surely he could fly out in a small plane and rescue us.
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
S: I probably have the most meat on me so I guess I'm dead.
L: *looks at Sam, who is literally nicknamed The Beef for the amount of meat he has on him* Yeah that guy.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
S: Lemmy. No joke on that one I just love Lemmy. The embodiment of the rock and roll spirit.
L: Geddy Lee. Rush are my favourite band ever and he is my favourite musician. I've always wanted to be as cool, chill, and down to earth (while writing and playing epic music with grand themes) as him.
