DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Sometime in February

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Sometime in February

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Sometime in February sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

“In Rainbows - Radiohead. A little bit of everything on there! Each track serves a purpose and I get something different out of each song.” - Tristan Auman

“311 - Transistor is one of my favorite albums of all time but if it couldn't be that then Steel Pulse - True Democracy. Being stuck on an island either would keep me grounded and give me the beachy vacation and not stuck vibe.” - Morgan Johnson

“Well, if we’re on Devil’s Island, Megadeth’s Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying? would be the perfect choice. I’ll actually stick with something metal but pivot to something a little more modern, Opeth’s Damnation. Undoubtedly some of their best songwriting and a good enough variety for a desert island pick. I assume it’s going to be pretty lonely on the island, so this album chock-full of beautiful but very sad tunes will be the perfect soundtrack to cry to while I stare into the endless ocean before me.” - Scott Barber

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

“If I’m only stuck with these guys, maybe something to remember other people by. Around the Fur - Deftones perhaps?” - Tristan

“Outkast - ATLiens because I love that album but also if we ever got off the island and future people went there, I'd hope they’d think aliens lived in the shack.” - Morgan

“This question is a little mean. We’re allowed to grab an album, and then a poster for a different album that will admittedly look cool on the shack wall but just remind us of more great music we don’t have access to on said island? You guys are evil, Devil’s Island is a fitting name after all! For this one, I actually will go with Megadeth’s Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying?. Classic cover with a gloomy vibe fitting for our newfound isolation.” - Scott

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

“Ice cold Topo Chico. It’s what I keep at my house at all times, so it’ll feel like home.” - Tristan

“Macallan 18” - Morgan

“I’m not much of a drinker, so I just hope there’s something tasty to chase whatever alcohol is in this decrepit old bar.” - Scott

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

“Probably my BTBAM sweatpants. Very cozy.” - Tristan

“100% my Slightly Stoopid Lighter it's my lucky lighter.” - Morgan

“My Car Bomb t-shirt that’s their name made to look like the Champion logo. Definitely have gotten a few double takes from confused onlookers and it’s pretty low key for band merch. My band merch collection in my early 30’s is honestly pretty pathetic compared to ten years ago.” - Scott

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

“Probably someone to make the island life a bit more luxurious. A solid, resourceful chef perhaps? I can hold some interviews, I’m pretty easy to get along with.” - Tristan

“My future wife.” - Morgan

“My girlfriend, or my cat. Preferably both. Maybe Tom Hanks?” - Scott

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Sometime in February

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

“Dream Theater - Score (Radio City Music Hall, 2006). This is probably my favorite show to watch, never gets old. A whole orchestra playing Octavarium? Come on.” - Tristan

“Rush R30.” - Morgan

“Another full music experience we can listen to on the island? Maybe you guys aren’t so bad after all. My favorite shows I’ve ever been to are either Paul McCartney in 2015, or one of the times I’ve seen Metallica (2009, 2017, 2018). I’d probably pick Sir Paul for the sheer length and variety of songs played.” - Scott

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

“Probably one of my guys from BTBAM. Not Paul though, he doesn’t take me seriously. Tommy would probably make shit happen though.” - Tristan

“Alex Terrible, because I think he would scare any potential threat away.” - Morgan

“My message in a bottle is definitely going to be written to Sting. I think he’s somewhat of an expert on that particular subject matter and would also probably have the resources to get us rescued.” - Scott

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

“Contrary to what our music video says, Morgan could indeed beat me in a fight, thanks to his past as a stunt man. If it’s not me, then it’s Scotty B.” - Tristan

“Me, I'm the most nutrient dense of the 3 of us.” - Morgan

“Honestly, I’m not a huge beach guy. I prefer cooler environments, a good mountain trip, places along those lines. “A while” in a tropical environment would eventually take its toll on me, so I’m down to offer myself up to save the other guys. Just please write a cool song about it and use the publicity of my newfound martyrdom to launch SIF to new heights.” - Scott

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

“A few possibilities, but realistically Paul Waggoner.” - Tristan

“My Dad, but if it has to be a famous musician, then Aaron P-nut Wills.” - Morgan

“Not a famous musician, but my guitar teacher Michael Burkett. Guitar was my first instrument before I later switched focus to drums, and Michael’s guidance was crucial to my early days as a musician, as well as my overall understanding of music. I am forever grateful that he ended up being my first music teacher.” - Scott
