DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Zayd
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Zayd sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Hybrid Theory – Linkin Park. This album was a game-changer for me. It wasn’t just music; it was raw emotion, vulnerability, and aggression all in one. It made me realize that music is something you feel, not just something you hear. If I’m stuck on an island, I need something that reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Blackbird – Alter Bridge. That album is a masterclass in songwriting, emotion, and musicianship. The cover itself, with its dark, mysterious aesthetic, fits perfectly with the whole "stranded on an island" vibe. Plus, if I’m stuck here, I want something inspiring to look at.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Probably a classic whiskey on the rocks. If I’m stuck here, might as well sip on something that has a bit of fire to it—kind of like my music.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
An Alter Bridge hoodie—it’s comfortable, iconic, and the kind of thing that’d keep me warm when the island nights get cold. Plus, it’s a band that’s shaped my sound in more ways than one.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
If I had to pick, Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge). The dude is my guitar idol, and if we’re stuck here, we might as well write the greatest metal album of all time. Plus, he gave me advice in 2017 that changed my career: "Let the world decide where this song belongs. Don’t hold back”

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
If I had to pick one live show to have on that Walkman, it would be Linkin Park’s "Live in Texas" (2003). I remember watching it on TV as a kid, completely glued to the screen. I had never seen anything like it before—the raw power of Chester Bennington’s voice, the way Mike Shinoda flowed effortlessly between rapping and singing, and the sheer energy of the crowd losing themselves in every song.
At that moment, something clicked. Even as a kid, I knew this was more than just a concert— it was an experience. It made me feel something deep, something electric. That show was one of the first sparks that ignited my passion for music. It showed me that music isn’t just about sound—it’s about emotion, connection, and pouring your entire soul into what you create.
If I’m stuck on this island, that’s the kind of inspiration I need to keep going.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
I’m sending that bottle straight to Dave Grohl. The guy has done everything—he’s played in two legendary bands, survived the crazy rock lifestyle, and seems like the kind of person who’d show up on a raft, beers in hand, ready to jam before helping us escape.
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Since I’m a solo artist… well, looks like I’m fasting for eternity! Unless I find a way to fish, I’m just gonna have to tough it out.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
No question, Chester Bennington (Linkin Park). His raw intensity, emotional depth, and ability to express pain in music shaped the way I write and perform. If he were here, we’d turn this island into the most legendary rock studio ever .
