Bloodstock Bound: Desolator

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Desolator

The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.

Desolator: Hey! I’m Felix & we are Desolator from Southampton, UK: Jamie Brooks – Guitar/Vox, Felix Dock Bass/Vox, Sam Talbot – Drums.

The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?

Desolator: We are an old school speed/thrash metal band established in 2010. I think our style is perfectly summed up by our new album title 'Spirit of Speed' - which captures what playing this type of music means to us - the lunacy and adrenaline of playing at full speed and the joy and liberation of letting loose!

The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

Desolator: Going almost every year and hanging around long enough!! Haha no - our friend and absolute legend Mick Wood who works with Metal 2 the Masses decided to take a chance on us! Madris all weekend for you mate!

The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

Desolator: It means a hell of a lot! We’ve all been coming to the festival since 2009 and always dreamt of one day being able to be part of the bill. It really feels like the annual meet up for the British metal scene and a very special event, so we are very grateful to be part of that this year.

The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

Desolator: They can expect a full speed assault of pure savagery and lunacy delivered with a smile. We always want to create a mad and fun vibe where everyone can fully let loose and share in the liberation of pure thrash and speed mayhem!

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?

Desolator: Friday evening!

The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

Desolator: We are looking forward to checking out the other thrash bands like Thrashist Regime and also taking the opportunity to check out some new bands! The highlight for me has to be Obituary – such legends and always an incredible heavy show – that'll be the perfect way to the end the weekend for sure.

The Razor's Edge: Playing the EMP Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

Desolator: Well as mentioned earlier we’ve just released our second album ‘Spirit of Speed’ so the plan is to promote that and play as many shows as we can! This is our first major festival, so we’d love to break into the festival circuit and also get back out to Europe as it has been a while! Promotors please get in touch!

The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?

Desolator: To our shame we will actually be indulging in a nearby hotel! We’ve all camped many times but sometimes a fresh shower and a fry up is what’s needed to the start the day! We’ve always camped in Midgard and had many crazy nights in there, in 2010 Jamie ended up having to be carried through the campsite and was diagnosed with trench foot!

The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?

Desolator: To quote the mighty Tankard - “Hooray for Barley”. It is safe to say that we will be doing our best to sample the vast array of beers in the Serpent’s Lair tent. I think some of our silliest lyrics from High Speed Hangover will give you an idea - “Hops heaven! Malted menace! Fermented fun! Liquid love! Pint pusher! Bottle basher! Keg crusher! Ale attacker!”.

The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!

Desolator: See you there!! Cheers!
