DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Adam and the Hellcats
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Adam and the Hellcats sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
ZAK: Ok so the album I would grab would be black sabbath paranoid because it’s actually the album that got me wanting to play guitar and paranoid was actually the first song I ever learnt.
CIRWEN: Ado's Utattemita album. Ado is one of my biggest influences for her passion, raw power and intense vocals! The one problem is... How am I gonna listen to it when there's no power?
ADAM: Ok so if we're talking studio albums it would probably be House of noise by Massive Wagons. Just a perfect rock n roll album to me and one that really inspired me in our bands earlier days
STEVE: Disney's Hercules soundtrack because it's got great songs.
TONY: Has to be Meatloaf – Bat out of Hell – not a bad song and great storytelling my Steinman! (Oh and a Cold Play album – need something to start a fire with)
EDDIE: Worrier at the Edge of Time by Hawkwind. Music you can rock out too, or to chill and watch the stars and sea.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
ZAK: The poster I would choose would have to be iron maiden killers I just think it’s a awesome cover and in my opinion one of their best albums
ADAM: I can't fully explain why but it's gotta be against the wall by mason hill. Just such satisfying artwork even tho its so simple
TONY: Motorhead No Sleep till Hammersmith – the seminal live album and the picture of the Bomber lighting rig!
EDDIE: Worrier at The Edge of Time. The original used to fold out so would look great.
CIRWEN: How convenient!! I put up a poster of the album SELF-ISH by Will Wood and the Tapeworms. An album with not only fantastic art but the songs are highly chaotic, poetic and ultimately the purest form of madness.
STEVE: One of the eagles album covers, it's probably the last time I bought a album before everything went into computers.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
CIRWEN: I love a good spiced rum... Totally not linked to my obsession with pirates as a child, honestly. It's perfect for my sweet tooth as I can't stand bitter tastes.
STEVE: Tea. I will turn half the island into a tea plantation.
TONY: Vodka and Coke of course! A double triple.
ZAK: I’d have to go with rum I reckon, you know if you're stranded on an island might as well drink pirate juice right.
ADAM: I'm gonna go with zak here and say rum. what better place to drink it than a desert island
EDDIE: Guinness. It is a complete meal and essential for a balanced diet.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
ADAM: Well it's not really merch as such because I'm the only one who has one. Its gotta be my stage denim, I always feel that bit better anytime I put it on.
CIRWEN: An old bath bomb we used to sell... It's uhh it's just a frothy wrapper now. Smells good though. Kinda wish I had a heart and hand grenades shirt instead but oh well
ZAK: I’d say probably my monster magnet T-shirt purely because I really like that T-shirt haha.
TONY: I have three charcutier portraits of Angus, Lemmy and Freddie by Nigel Humphries they are superb
EDDIE: Something with shiny with a lanyard. Let's face it merch would be pretty useless but if there are any native people they may like the shiny bits and the lanyards may come in useful. Hearts and Hand grenades for good memories.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
ZAK: Honestly I’d probably choose my dog not just cos I love that fluffy fucker but also cos he could help hunt food.
ADAM: The rest of the band will obviously mess around on this one but for me these 5 are the family I chose. Well except for tony kinda stuck with him on account of him being my dad
CIRWEN: My WIFEEEE and my partner, man. It's such a sausage fest over here and Tony looks like he's gonna eat Adam. Mole keeps finding random old totems?? Where did he GET them??? Either way I've been sticking with Mole purely for the adventure aspect."
TONY: Lizzy Hale from Halestorm – I rest my case!
EDDIE: Almost anyone else! A country band, with more ladies in it to even things up? In the hope they could grow and make stuff.

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
ADAM: Would definitely be us at Hard rock hell 2024. You'd have to have been there to really understand but quite easily the greatest night of my life.
ZAK: That's easy it would be Pink Floyd Delicate sound of Thunder. It's always been my favourite live show. The sound quality is fantastic and it’s not like you could ever get bored listening to gilmours solos.
STEVE: Live show - prob one of ours as I have a few recorded and frankly they're good.
TONY: AC/DC Download 2010 – incredible show and a fabulous weekend with Aerosmith, Motorhead and Saxon
EDDIE: Frank Zappa, live at the Palladium 1981. I saw him around then and I'd never get my head around it.
CIRWEN: Talking heads: stop making sense. This AINT no disco and this AINT no party.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
CIRWEN: A message to a weird ass Bristol band called Alien Stash Tin: "bring the UFO please. Niburu's not coming but maybe you will?"
STEVE: Stuck on a desert island, I'm not giving you the coordinates, it's peaceful here, no HR. Don't come looking for me. Goodbye.
ADAM: Probably our manager Gordon, the one guy I know who would be able to sort it out
EDDIE: Rescue message? The Police? Naah to easy. Someone with a boat so they can rescue us, Clapton or Gilmore
ZAK: Well Bruce Dickinson has a pilots licence, might be a chance of rescue.
TONY: Again Lizzy Hale as who cares if you get lost in a lifeboat with her!!
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
CIRWEN: ....Zak. You'd think Mole, being the oldest but I don't think anyone wants to risk that right now. He's the least worried out of all of us. I think he feels like he's on holiday. Steve's too lean, Adam's too fast. Zak is the nicest. So yeah...
ADAM: Sorry Zak, more meat to go around mate!
STEVE: The Pole (Cirwen), have you ever had meat marinated in vodka? That's Polish people. Delicious. Shame we don't have an Italian in the band, soaked in red wine they are.
TONY: Zak – he is the newest member – last in first to get eaten
EDDIE: Eat Zac, he's the 2nd guitar player and Adam sings so sorry Zac.
ZAK: Well shit being the fat one of the band I guess I’d be fighting for survival haha, but honestly I’d say anyone except Adam can’t really have Adam and the hellcats without him now can we.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
ADAM: Probably Tony, I'll regret it later i'm sure but that's who i'd pick.
CIRWEN: There's TWO Adams!? FUCK.
GORDON'S (Manager) FUCKING CLONING THE BAND.
WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE.
Wait but this means... We didn't HAVE to eat Womble... We could've eaten the Adam clone but that fucker hid himself the whole time..."
STEVE: Some Canadian called Steve Stein, he taught me chord theory on YouTube for free. I had a friend go to Uni for chord theory. I got £9000 worth of university education from a long haired Canadian on YouTube. I'd save him.
ZAK: I’d save Tony Iommi like I said before he’s the reason I wanted to play guitar in the first place and the fact he managed to keep playing even after losing his finger tips is inspiring to me atleast.
EDDIE: One musician? JJ Cale? Loe Reed? hmm already dead, Shirly Manson, but would be miserable to live with. So Kylie, she's cool
TONY: Lemmy – has to be every time he didn’t give a shit and lived as he wanted to
