DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Keep This Up
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Keep This Up sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Chris: For me it's What Separates Me From You - A Day To Remember
Jared: There are so many albums to choose from. Probably ironically Lost Together//Lost Forever by Architects
George: Deaf Havana - Fools and worthless liars
Dan: Split album/ep, The Depression Sessions by Thy Art Is Murder, The Acacia Strain, Fit For An Autopsy. The songwriting is fantastic from all 3 bands, the covers are superb, it set me on the path of listening to heavier music and I haven’t looked back since.
Andy: The Used Shadow Believer my all time favourite has a bit of everything on it.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Chris: Homesick - A Day To Remember. It is iconic and fantastic artwork to get lost in.
Jared: I think I'd probably go for New Junk Aesthetic by Every Time I Die. Probably useful for the time we eventually turn on each other and can use the guy on the cover as a voice of reason as we descent into madness.
Andy: Get Scared Best Kind of Mess. Soothing and would look cool in the shack.
George: Senses fail - let it enfold you. This may or may not be good for my sanity in isolation.
Dan: The Eternal Blue artwork from Spiritbox is pretty cool and I’d say calming as well, it’s just nice to look at I guess.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Jared: I feel like at this stage it has to either be stella or red bull, one of the two.
Chris: Agreed. Stella or Red bull.
Dan: Stella, If we all get to pick one and we can all drink each other’s as well and Stella has been picked by someone else then white Monster Ultra.
George: Similar, but gotta be old school super sugary green monster.
Andy: Similar, either Red Bull or Monster.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Chris: My Ice Nine Kills Candyman Hoodie. I absolutely love it so much.
George: That brainwashed flag from while she sleeps will mark my camp.
Dan: THAT Cradle Of Filth shirt, if you know you know.
Andy: BMTH t-shirt late 00s.
Jared: Probably my Kids in Glass Houses Boyband Garbage hoodie.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Jared: Literally anyone else!
Chris: agreed! I'd rather be on my own?
George: agreed
Andy: Definitely my wife
Dan: Frankie Boyle
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Jared: Probably the Mitch Lucker remembrance show. So many good bands on there supporting a fantastic cause.
George: Agreed
Chris: Sum 41s farewell show at Nottingham Arena
Dan: Probably the Architects memorial show for Tom Searle
Andy: The story so far 2024 live at red rocks
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Chris: In the most logical sense, Bruce Dickinson. He can fly in and save us all in his jet.
George: Have to agree with Bruce Dickinson. Could also imagine the parkway drive boys paratrooping in to save us then setting everything on fire for no reason.
Dan: Pretty sure Metallica have a helicopter, one trip out ain’t gonna put much of a dent in their wallet.
Jared: I'm with Chris and George on this one.
Andy: Alex Terrible just because it would be entertaining.
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Chris: Sorry Andy your numbers up.
George: Sorry Andy.
Dan: Chris… unlucky mate.
Andy: Chris is the right size to feed the lot.
Jared: Either Dan or Andy. A) Because I can't deal with someone always being right whilst marooned and B) I can't be bothered with the whinging.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Chris: Deryck Whibley (Sum 41).
George: Hard to name one person. Probably Sam Carter. All-round decent person. Hopefully will teach me some vegan recipes seeing as there will be nothing around except berries and nuts.
Dan: Matt Nicholls (BMTH) was the first drummer I properly looked up to.
Andy: Tom Delonge because he was the reason I wanted to play guitar.
Jared: I'm with George, I think Sam is just a decent person and would be good to hang with.
