DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Virtue In Vain

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Virtue In Vain

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Virtue In Vain sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Hywel: That is hard to choose from. I would have to say With Roots Above And Branches Below by The Devil Wears Prada. It was the album that got me into metalcore and wanted me to start making music. Plus it’s an incredible album!

Mason: East Atlanta Love Letter by 6lack as it's a very chill album

Dan: Mine would be Bilmuri - American Motor Sports because it is such a good album with some really good upbeat songs which would vibe nicely when on an island.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Hywel: Same album, love the artwork and the artist who designed it (Dan Seagrave)

MasonLugel Ki En by Rings of Saturn cause its colourful.

Dan: For me, I'm not one to look too much at the artwork and rather listen to the music but if I had to choose one, it would be our most recent single artwork Blood Eyes because it looks really cool!

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Hywel: Strawberry Lemonade. Being on an island in that kind of heat, that will be one refreshing drink

Mason: Coke Cola, I pretty much live of the stuff

Dan: My drink would be a Starbucks Lime refresher as they are sooo nice especially in the hot weather!

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Hywel: Probably our latest merch shirt. Front and back print so can change it up day to day haha

Mason: Lock & Key shorts, they are so comfy to just relax in

Dan: Mine would also be our most recent merch because it has the Blood Eyes album artwork on it which to me, looks cool as!

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Hywel: Hmm do I trap my partner and family on an island with me or go with someone else? Being selfish, I would say my partner or family, as we make the most of the peace

Mason: For me it would be my girlfriend

Dan: I would be happy to be trapped with my band mates as we all work together really well and would boss living together but the selfish part for me would be my partner and children as I couldn't live without them!

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Hywel: I would have to say My Chemicals Romance Live in Mexico on the Black Parade Tour, thats incredible live show.

Mason: I think it would have to be the Mitch Lucker memorial concert

Dan: Ooo for me it would be Bilmuri Live at Atalanta! such a good live show which is so upbeat and has really good vibes!

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Hywel: Johnny Franck – Bilmuri. Hogman would find a way

Mason: Adam Getgood, he will have an answer

Dan: Mine would definitely be Winston McCall from Parkway Drive because he hasn't long done a helicopter walk in Australia so I can picture him coming to our rescue with the chopper holding out a helping hand whilst on the chopper ladder!

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Hywel: Mason or Dan, not picky. Just need a little seasoning

Mason: Myself

Dan: Definitely Mason, just looks yummy hahaha!

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Hywel: Nick from Make Them Suffer. He has really changed the way I write and play music both as person and the music his band creates.

Mason: My piano teacher as he inspired me to get into music

Dan: I have several that I look at but if I was to choose one for right now it would be Daniel Furnari from Polaris, his drumming style with the little ghost notes has made me want to be a better drummer adding more of a technical side rather than just playing straight so at the moment, he is the one I relate with most.
