DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Adrenaline Kings
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Adrenaline Kings sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Matthias (vocals): Definitely not 4′33″ by John Cage!
Paulus (guitar): As I assume that my fellow colleagues will provide us with a more or less fine collection of rock, I’d choose Miley Cyrus’s live record “Attention”. Cause we need some catchy female pop....and because I really fucking love Miley 😉
Roland (bass guitar): It’s either “Black Radio Won’t Play This Record” by Mother’s Finest for its incredible heavy funk grooves, “Ordo ad Chao” by Mayhem for its utter madness or “The 2nd Law” by Muse for its sophisticated sound and song crafting. I’ll decide on the spot, depending on the mood.
Florian (drums): Meat Loaf - Bat out of hell; it has fast stuff, ballads, guitar solos, symphonic arrangements and timeless melodies. It’s a record my whole family enjoys and the drumming in “For crying out loud” made me want to pick up drum sticks. Amazing chops by Max Weinberg.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Matthias: “Blackout” by the Scorpions, because it’s by a relatively famous Austrian artist and it’s also pretty damned cool!
Paulus: Appetite for destruction. The original rape scene cover....still the raddest art work ever.
Roland: I find album covers difficult to masturbate to, so that wouldn’t be my first choice for a free space on the wall for an indefinite period of time… but if I absolutely had to, probably Aerosmith’s “Get a grip” for sentimental reasons. That was the first album I bought with my own money.
Florian: Manowar - Triumph of Steel: epic and sexy
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Matthias: An ice cold brewski – I’m not picky, but no hipster beers and nothing American.
Paulus: Depending on if there is a fresh water source on the island or not....I’d either take water or beer
Roland: Long Island Ice Tea. Fastest and tastiest way to get pissed as hell.
Florian: Tea with milk – nothing beats a good cuppa
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Matthias: A damned awesome Scorpions mirror from 1979 that my brother found at a flea market or something and gave me as a gift. That’s definitely going on the wall of the shack. Either that or the Whitesnake 1987 tapestry that currently hangs in my water closet!
Paulus: Rammstein long sleeve shirt from the “Mutter” Tour 2001. Was the first real concert I went on my own. Still have it. Always will.
Roland: The “Necrodemon Terrorsathan” shirt by Belphegor.
Florian: Definitely my ZZ Top keychain from the legs video. Not sure why I would need it there but so what…
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Matthias: Just about anyone else. 😀
Paulus: Miley Cyrus
Roland: A fine selection of porn stars, obviously.
Florian: Leonardo DaVinci, followed closely by my wife and son (I gotta say that). Leo was always up to something. Never a dull moment and very inspirational.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Matthias: Yngwie Malmsteen – Live in Leningrad. In fact, I literally used to listen to that tape on my Walkman!
Paulus: Guns n Roses – Live at the Ritz. When I first heard that record, age 6, it completely changed everything for me, as music became the number one most important thing in life.
Roland: X Japan’s last show with Taiji Sawada on bass.
Florian: Bruce Springsteen Live 1975-1985
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Matthias: Well it would have to be Sting, wouldn’t it?
Paulus: I’d go with Matt Sorum as he surely has experience with rescuing men lost at sea as proven in the “Estranged” video.
Roland: Even if I hate the guy: U2’s Bono Vox. If anyone will move heaven and hell to do something good for the sake of turning it into a giant parade for themselves, it’s gonna be him, right?
Florian: No idea
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Matthias: Roland is the biggest, so he’ll have to take one for the team. Paulus has a BMI of about 13.5, so not a good choice.
Paulus: Tough one....being raised a gentlemen I’d politely offer myself....but nah...will decide that after a month on that island and, with a clear conscience, sacrifice the most annoying one
Roland: Probably me. I’m the most overweight, killing me will keep the others fed the longest… (Matthias’ note: great minds think alike!)
Florian: Since there are two guitar players in the band I guess it’ll have to be one of them……..
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Matthias: My first favorite song in life was “Bright Eyes” by Art Garfunkel. Art kicked it all off for me, so he’s getting that lifeline.
Paulus: Must be the one and only Mr. Lemmy Kilmister.... (Matthias’ note: a fine choice!)
Roland: My bass teacher. Not necessarily the single human I get along with the best, but my playing and perspective on making music as a whole wouldn’t be anywhere near where it is today without his input.
Florian: Tommy Lee Bass – I can still recall many a word of wisdom
