DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Letallis
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Letallis sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Jake: Pee Wee’s Big Adventure/Back to School soundtrack. To make being stranded on an island at least whimsical.
Marcus: In Flames - The Jester Race. My introduction to screaming vocals and a masterpiece of melody and groove.
Alex: Avalon by Roxy Music. No contest for me.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Jake: Steel Panther - Feel the Steel. So I can pray to the Gods every morning.
Marcus: Opeth - Heritage. Just so rich and full of color and detail, and I’ll have no shortage of time to analyze it!
Alex: Definitely Mithras 'Behind the Shadows...'. I love that album cover, as it feels like an extraterrestrial Dali painting. Plus they're one of my favorite bands ever.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Jake: Sex on the beach, because when is sand not fun?
Marcus: Guava kombucha because I’m a crunchy mf.
Alex: Cabernet Sauvignon, preferably from Napa Valley, and good quality.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Jake: Gotta save the Phil Collins flipping the bird shirt.
Marcus: Sabaton camo sweatpants for those cold nights.
Alex: Definitely keeping that Malignancy shirt from my first European tour with them in 2012.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Jake: Bodacious babes as Marcus said.
Marcus: Babes, obviously.
Alex: Honestly, just myself and a drumset. Anyone who knows me can attest that I can literally live with just drums for company.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Jake: Reggie Watts live at Central Park. Music, comedy and disorientation beautifully wrapped into one performance.
Marcus: Children of Bodom, Tokyo Warhearts. So much raw energy and the shredding is on point.
Alex: Planet X - Live in Oz
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Jake: Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden because he can not only fly but fly us out in style.
Marcus: Jake, if I tell him that me making the next gig depends on it.
Alex: I'm 100% sending it to Eric Morotti from Suffocation.
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Jake: I’ll probably just offer myself up.
Marcus: Alex, those drummer muscles would soften up nicely over a fire.
Alex: Definitely Marcus, because we can use his glasses to reflect light and start a fire afterwards.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Jake: It’d have to be Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth. The man swoons me with his music.
Marcus: John Petrucci.
Alex: Virgil Donati. The guy is my all-time hero and such a great musician and human being
