DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Blackmarket

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Blackmarket

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Blackmarket sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Danny: Homesick by ADTR - Some of my favourite breakdowns which would be a must to bring on Devil's island.

Scott : Appetite for destruction - every bit of Paradise needs a bit of rebellious rock and roll. This is a popular

Fraser: Euthanasia , Stray From The Path hands down. I think that’s gotta be my favourite album in a very very long time. ‘Just brutal from start to finish.

Cary: Enter Shikari - Take to the skies. Listening as I look to the skies, hoping the mothership drops in and rescues us all.

Hadleigh: Slipknot - Iowa. easily one of my favourite albums.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to sleep in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose and why?

Scott: Alter bridge - Fortress, to give us a drive in our shack which will be called the Fortress.

Fraser: That's a much harder one, Highway to Hell i think by ACDC. Born and raised headbanging to that album.

Hadleigh: A Day To Remember,  Homesick. Really trippy, I feel like I could stare at it all day.

Danny:  Balls Out - Steel Panther. If you know, you know 😉

Cary: Blink 182 - Enima of the State. Nice to have some female company - even if she’s appearing as the iconic nurse from the album cover.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Cary: Sitting amongst the coconut trees with a Pina Colada, making the most of being stranded with the boys.

Fraser: ahhh easy , Speights Gold Medal Ale! I’m half Kiwi and that beer is pure home and heaven in a bottle.

Hadleigh: I’m gonna be boring and say dark fruits strongbow. I feel like this island is gonna be hot.

Scott: Margarita, get that party going!

Danny: Johnny Walker, Whiskey - True rockstar drink.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Scott: Our Beanies, they were our first bit of merch and they are bound to become the islands main trading currency.

Cary: An XXL Blackmarket hoodie - to remind me what band I’m in when I start to lose my mind, and with enough room for Scotty to squeeze in and keep warm on those stormy nights

Hadleigh: Definitely taking our limited edition hoodie for warmth. Don't know if I'm inviting Fraser in for a cuddle though.

Fraser: The caveman ancestry is speaking to me on this one, I'm gonna take our old lighters. Make fire, cook meat.

Danny: Slipknot guitar pics - in case we are skilled enough to craft a guitar out of a palm tree.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Cary: Bear Grylls - because I’m just a musician with zero survival instincts. I’ll handle the campfire entertainment with some fine a cappella screamo… even if it’s not my main instrument.

Fraser: I’m gonna say my dad. He also loves Speights so im counting on him also grabbing the same drink for the Island.

Hadleigh: ahhh nobody, love these guys.

Danny: No one, they are my true broskis.

Scott: Anyone.

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Blackmarket

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Scott: Our first London show, The Beehive - this was our first show as a 5 piece and was in a small packed room right before the covid lockdowns. It went so well and was the best memory immediately before the lockdowns.

Danny: Enter Shikari at The Colosseum in Watford. One of the best life shows I've been to in our home town.

Fraser: Stray From The Path O2 Kentish town 2025 - entire line up, start to finish was absolutely incredible. Just hours of neck braking insanity.

Hadleigh: Oooooh yeah same here for me, the drums were out of this world for that show.

Cary: I’ve got Imminence on repeat from Slam Dunk 2025 - nothing like emotional violin-led breakdowns to match the despair and keep me company.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Scott: Slash, he doesn't need to rescue us, just a response to one of our many letters would make our lives.

Danny: Jack Black. I'm pretty sure he would come and rescue us no doubt

Cary: Tom DeLonge from Blink-182 - first he’d grab his guitar and start singing ‘Where are yeeeww?’ across the ocean, then casually forward my coordinates to the aliens

Fraser: becoming increasingly worried about being on this island with Cary. But, Keanu Reeves - John wick is gonna save us for sure and his band is lowkey kinda cool.

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Scott: We're a team and we'd never sacrifice any of the others. Just kidding, definitely Hadleigh, he's been bulking and so would definitely provide the most protein.

Cary: Hadleigh’s been on a proper bulk lately and absolutely smashing the gym. He’s had one goal in mind… becoming sacrificial meat for the band - And I’ve heard he tastes like pig.

Fraser: Yup. Sorry Hads, you did it to yourself. I reckon he's gonna be marbled like some A5 wagyu at the moment too.

Danny: Agreed, Hadleigh makes the best pig sequels so it's only fitting that we have him on a little spit roast... oink oink.

Hadleigh: I think I'm just gonna go on a diet when we get there.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Danny: Satchel from Steel panther. The guy just oozes out coolness.

Scott: Myles Kennedy, thanks to his open style and evolution within Alter Bridge.

Fraser: Slash, I was a total fanboy when I was a kid. My dyslexic ass even made the effort to read his autobiography. If I could afford one at the time, I would've had a top hat.

Cary: Rou Reynolds - for the energy, the experimentation, and the mindset of just doing things differently

Hadleigh: Joey Jordison for me. Slipknot like a lot of people in our generation was a big introduction to the world of meta. That guy ripped harder than anyone else yet.
