Devil's Island featuring Recall The Remains.
We're back on our tropical desert island, in the middle of the ocean, hundreds of miles from anywhere. This is Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band on the island and see what they get up to. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each band copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we found Recall The Remains, the up and coming metal outfit from Telford. We had not seen the band for a while, we thought they were lost, search parties had found no trace! But now we've found them shipwrecked on our island!
How did they cope with life on Devil's Island? Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you each chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Jacob: Thy Art Is Murder's Hate album. It is the band that got me in to deathcore and in the vocals I do
Tony: Slipknots self titled album because Joey Jordison is a major influence for my own drumming. When I first heard the album it opened my eyes to a whole new world of music. Slipknot was the first metal band I ever listened to and it allowed me to explore new genres of music.
Jordan: Evanescence Fallen. This album plays a huge part in my life and makes me feel at home. Our own writing is fully infected with hard hitting catchy chorus mojo when we manage to restrain Jacob for 30 seconds and this album does the very same thing but like no other.
Zach: Master of Puppets by Metallica. I need those riffs forever.
Elliot: Oh, Sleepers 'Children of Fire' album. Oh, Sleeper have been my favourite band since I first heard them about 8 years ago.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Jacob: When Infant Annihilator dropped their album “The Elysian Grandeval Galèriarch” I fell in love with that album cover
Tony: Tough one it would have to be something interesting to look at as I'll be seeing it every night before sleep so I'd say Drift by Erra the imagery is really cool to look at.
Jordan: Nightwish Endless Forms Most Beautiful. Getting lost in album art whilst lost on an island sounds interesting. I'd appreciate the irony.
Zach: All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us by Architects. I like the simplicity of the design.
Elliot: 'Language' by The Contortionist. Very pretty to look at.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to chose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Jacob: Jagermeister and energy drinks or just Jagermeister neat
Tony: Southern Comfort and Coke as long as we're allowed mixer. If not neat will be fine since we're on a desert island I'll want to be as drunk as possible.
Jordan: G and T because I'm a classy lady.
Zach: Bleach. I’m joking. Get me a JD and coke and I’m cool.
Elliot: Desperados
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. Whats the merch and for what band?
Jacob: If it was just a top then it would be my “doggie style first” top by Emmure or my Carnfiex hoodie.
Tony: Not a band but it has to be my Download Festival hoody got to stay warm at night you see. Plus it's from the first festival I ever attended.
Jordan: My Recall The Remains shirt of course! I kid, probably my Tesseract shirt, the night I saw them in Birmingham was one of the best performances I've ever seen.
Zach: I Like Tony’s idea so I’m going with my Affiance “Gaia” hoodie. It’s soft as hell and so warm.
Elliot: My Dorje hoodie. Very comfy for those chilly beach nights.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Jacob: The Mitch Lucker memorial show. It was amazing to watch so many musicians come together and perform some of Suicide Silences songs
Tony: Lamb of God Killadelphia. I love Lamb of God so much Chris is another one of my favourite/influential drummers. Plus The Subtle Arts of Murder and Persuasion is pure perfection.
Jordan: Nightwish @ Wacken open air. It's a show I can watch time and time again. I'd need some nice harmonies to listen to whilst the others go tribal.
Zach: Speaking of tribal, I’m going with Metallica Live in Seattle. That show looked INTENSE
Elliot: The Contortionist live in Birmingham amazing gig.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the one musician most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Jacob: As I Lay Dying’s Tim Lambesis because he is an absolute tank.
Tony: Darly Payne from Elyrean he's my bro and has helped me out many times I know he would have my back.
Jordan: Chris from At Dawn We Attack, always super helpful and will sort you put of you have a problem. Plus that double bass skill, I'm sure he's a boss swimmer.
Zach: Satchel from Steel Panther. I’m sure he knows how to moto
Elliot: Ben from At Dawn We Attaxk
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Elliot: Tony
Jacob: I second my drummer, but Elliot wouldn't put up too much of a fight either.
Tony: Elliot, he wouldn't put up much of a fight.
Jordan: I'd sacrifice Jacob. I'm sure he'd appreciate the angelic attention.
Zach: Sorry Elliot, I want those guitar skills.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Jacob: CJ McMahon from Thy Art Is Murder, I love the band, I love CJ as a person and a musician as his songs have meaning and depth behind them and he never takes himself to seriously on stage.
Tony: Chris Adler laid back down to earth guy and he's a beast behind the kit.
Jordan: Amy Lee of Evanescence. Her music has been with me through everything. No matter where I am this lady could bring me back to where I need to be.
Zach: James Hetfield. He is the reason I started playing guitar.
Elliot: Deryck Whibley because Sum 41 was one of my favourite bands when I was younger
We hope you make it off the island soon.
As we left the island Deryck (Sum41) and Amy (Evanescance) were wondering how the f*ck they'd managed end up on Devil's Island with this lot. Meanwhile the band were eyeing up Elliot as their evening mean. Good luck guys, we hope you make it home soon!
