DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring South of Salem.
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we found rockers South of Salem sat on the beach. This is far from their home town of Bournemouth. How have they got to our tiny island? And how will they get back?
How did the band cope with life on Devil's Island? Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Joey: Manson’s ‘Mechanical Animals’ it’s one of the only albums I would genuinely consider perfect.
Kodi: ‘Appetite For Destruction’ by Gn’R because every song is amazing and it’s the one album I could easily listen to for the rest of my life.
Fish: Ratt’s ‘Invasion Of Your Privacy’ because 80s solos.
Dee: Crazy Lixx’s 2014 self-titled album as Pip’s choice would get on my nerves and I need something more upbeat.
Pip: ‘I Loved You At Your Darkest’ by Behemoth as I think it’s a masterpiece of songwriting and production.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Joey: Metallica’s ‘Ride The Lightning’
Kodi: The original banned ‘Appetite For Destruction’ cover art.
Fish: Mr. Big’s ‘Get Over It’.
Dee: ‘Balls Out’ by Steel Panther
Pip: Cradle of Filth’s ‘The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh’.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to chose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Joey: Jack Daniel’s
Kodi: Coffee
Fish: Tequila Sunrise
Dee: Blue Slushpuppy
Pip: Carlsberg, only the finest cooking lager for me.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. Whats the merch and for what band?
Joey: Probably my Alice Cooper ‘Hey Stoopid’ vinyl
Kodi: My Motorhead T-Shirt from their last UK show
Fish: AC/DC’s Oven Gloves (yeah that was a thing…)
Dee: A KISS branded lifeboat, I assume this is readily available
Pip: A case of Trooper
You're sat on the island thinking "I'm stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity"... who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Joey: Pamela Anderson
Kodi: A Navy SEALs Rescue Squad
Fish: Tarrie B Murphy from My Ruin
Dee: Katy Perry
Pip: Bear Grylls
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Joey: KoRn & Limp Bizkit at The SSE Arena in 2016
Kodi: Metallica playing ‘Master Of Puppets’ in it’s entirety at Download Festival
Fish: The Living End, London Astoria on my birthday.
Dee: Guns n’ Roses Not In This Lifetime Tour
Pip: Cradle Of Filth playing the ‘Cruelty’ album at The London Palladium
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the one musician most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
It’s gotta be Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson. Get that Boeing 757, Flight 666, down here and pick our stranded asses up.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Joey: Chris Cornell
Kodi: Lemmy
Fish: Randy Rhodes
Dee: David Bowie
Pip: Kurt Cobain
… this is a ghost ship right?
Sadly there is no room on our boat, so we have to sail away from Devil's Island leaving the band on the beach. As the island slowly shrinks on the horizon we can see Pip slowly cooking on a spit over the open fire. So long lads, we hope what remain of you get home soon!
