Album Review: Ghosts of Atlantis - 3.6.2.4

3.6.2.4 is the debut album from Suffolk symphonic extreme metallers Ghosts Of Atlantis. They formed in 2019 and feature current and former members of bands such as Devilment, and Extreme Noise Terror amongst others. They carry on the tradition of the Witch County sound made famous by bands such as Cradle Of Filth but with a lyrical theme of ancient Greece and the lost city of Atlantis.

Ghosts Of Atlantis have a sound that mixes in so many different elements from a plethora of different metal sub-genres from symphonic metal to death metal to gothic metal to progressive metal to groove metal. All these different styles and elements are all mixed together and the result is quite frankly spectacular. I love the merging of symphonic and extreme metal sound and Ghosts Of Atlantis do the style justice whilst also putting their own stamp on it. 3.6.2.4 is an album that is sweepingly epic and majestic whilst also being heavy as hell. Each of the eight songs on the album seamlessly mix sweeping epic orchestration with pummelling extreme metal, fat grooves, vicious harsh vocals and majestic clean vocals. Frontman Pip Primmer has a vicious snarl and growl which is counteracted perfectly by the gorgeous clean vocals of guitarist Colin Parks who has a vocal style very reminiscent of the mighty ICS Vortex (Borknagar/ex-Dimmu Borgir). Songs such as The Third Pillar and When Tridents Fall equally make you want to bang your head whilst the orchestration and sweeping melodies have your hairs standing on end though the highlights for me were the melodic death metal leanings of The Curse Of Man and huge album closer The Lost Compass.

3.6.2.4 is an absolutely majestic album and for a debut album it is absolutely incredible and at a trim 40 minutes it is an album that leaves you wanting more. This is an album that should definitely be getting some attention upon its release and Ghosts Of Atlantis have set the bar very high for themselves from the outset. Fans of Dimmu Borgir, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Septicflesh and Cradle Of Filth need to get this pumped down their ear holes as this is a stunning album.
