Album Review: Crimson Fire - Another Dimension
Reviewed by Richard Oliver
With a name like Crimson Fire there is absolutely no doubt that this Greek five piece are a power metal band. They formed in 2004 and Another Dimension is the third full length album from the band and their first release since 2016.
Crimson Fire have a sound that combines the styles of European power metal, 80’s U.S. heavy metal and some AOR together in one mixing pot. You get some songs such as Judas and No Fear which sit firmly in the power metal camp, songs which very much have that AOR/melodic hard rock sparkle such as On The Edge and Set The Night On Fire and songs which are straight up classic heavy metal worship such as Eye Of The Storm and Sold My Soul. The stand-outs are definitely Set The Night On Fire which is a fantastic song full of retro synths and feel-good sing-along choruses and No Fear which is a speedy punchy number of anthemic Euro power metal. The performances and musicianship by the band are uniformly excellent although vocalist John Britsas is a weaker link with a vocal style that lacks a bit in power and emotion though it is solid enough.
Another Dimension is a solid power metal album though apart from the aforementioned two album highlights it does lack a bit in longevity with a number of these songs being somewhat forgettable. There is a lack of big memorable hooks and massively melodic choruses at times which is usually a key factor in European power metal though the band do draw influence from more than just power metal. Aside from these criticisms, Another Dimension is an enjoyable album. Fans of power metal and melodic metal in general can do no wrong by giving this album a spin.
