DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Boozewa

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Boozewa

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Boozewa sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Jess: Nevermind is my always go to for stuff like this, but then I think I might want something a little more chill if I’m out on an island. Neil Young's everybody knows this is nowhere might be my pick now.. haha this is hard.

Rylan: It’s a long drive for someone with nothing to think about, modest mouse. I feel like it was written just for me, I don’t really have any other answer! They record has always been there for me. First time I ever heard them and I haven’t stopped since, so the island is t getting that away from me!

Mike: Man well Jess took my Neil Young pick, so I’m saying Pearl Jam 10. It’s my favourite record and I can’t imagine not hearing it anymore

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Jess: I can’t think of a damn thing

Rylan: Chieftains Number 7! When I was a kid I remember my mom cleaning the house listening to that record and I would just sit and stare at the cover. Its leprechauns at a party how can you not stare at it!

Mike: Faith No More king for a day fool for a lifetime. I LOVE the art from that record and the comic it was taken from. I actually have the poster of it in my office right now, so it would make that shack a little more like home.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Jess: Tequila. Straight up blanco tequila.

Rylan: Pina Colada. It’s the best. Easy. Thats pina colada good!

Mike: dammit jess took mine again. Mine is TEREMANA silver tequila. The rock makes it and it’s the BEST! The best Jerry, THE BEST

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Jess: My Caltrop shirt. CALTROP FOREVER

Rylan: My We’re All Gonna Die shirt from the Boston band of the same name. It’s perfect. My favourite shirt.

Mike: I’m taking my Zoroaster trucker hat. I need a hat and Zoroaster are the BOMB plus i think that’s a good island fit. Huge hollow riffs!

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Jess: My girlfriends - The Village. They fucking rule.

Rylan: The full staff of ghostbusters. OG please. The reality of life and death doesn’t exist so thats what I want!!

Mike: I’m going Les Stroud. He’s the coolest and he is survivor man and I bet he is fun to hang out with. And we could jam harmonicas!

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Boozewa

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Jess: Big Business in on the Here Come the Waterworks tour here in Philly at the North Star Bar

Rylan: Goatsnake at Kung Fu Necktie in Philly. I think 2015

Mike: Pearl Jam Washington DC Jan 14 1995. I actually have this tape already. First time I saw them and it’s absolutely perfect to me.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Jess: Jossica Borker. Band? Undefined

Rylan: Jay from Scissorfight!! If I’m gonna die I want to die smiling. Plus I feel like he would not really be able to do anything haha

Mike: Murat from Caltrop. He’s a bad ass and can survive anywhere!

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Jess: Myself. I couldn’t decide who to kill

Rylan: I give myself, because either 1. I have my smokes and I get cancer or 2. I don' t have my smokes and I don’t want to be alive anyway

Mike: I give myself, Im not going to eat these fools.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Jess: Sean Yseult. She influenced me more than even Patti Smith or... I just listened to White Zombie so much her playing and her attitude is everything.

Rylan: if we’re being honest I pick Mike. I didn’t learn shit from stuff I listened to really. If I’m picking someone that helped shape what I do it’s Mike.

Mike: Neil Young. Hands down he has shaped everything for me. From writing to art to just learning to not give a shit and just play. Neil.
