Album Review: Inglorious - MMXXI Live At The Phoenix

Eight years and four studio albums into their career, Inglorious are set to offer their adoring fans the bands first live album. The band through their studio albums have built a reputation for hard hitting rock anthems and have spearheaded the New Wave of Classic Rock movement spreading like wildfire across the UK right now.

After two years with no live music, the band headed out on a sold out twenty two date UK tour at the back end of 2021. At their show at the Exeter Phoenix they recorded their set for posterity and it is that performance we get to enjoy again now on ‘MMXXI Live At The Phoenix‘ a full live album and blu-ray/dvd set.

‘She Won’t Let You Go’ kicks us off with a guitar/drum solo leading into the show. It’s not your average start and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d joined midway through the show. But as Nathan James screams “MAKE SOME NOISE” the band settle into their rhythm and full rock fury begins.

The band play through ‘Messiah’ and ‘Breakaway’, Nathan James leaving you in no doubt of the strength of his unmistakable vocals. The Miley Cyrus cover they played on tour is missing from the live album and instead we jump forward to ‘Where Are You Now’, the fist pumping rock anthem. ‘Barracuda’ (the Heart cover) with its awesome guitar riff intro ups the pace and gets the crowd interaction going, although the fans do remain low in the mix on this live album.

The band have said this is the true representation of the band as they are today, and it’s hard to argue with that. They have fought their own adversities and powered through line up changes over the past eight year, but that leaves them stronger than ever. This live album really is an insight into the band circa 2021/2022 and well worth a listen for fans new and old alike.
