Album Review: Forsaken Eternity - A Kingdom Of Ice
Reviewed by Rick Eaglestone
Portland’s Forsaken Eternity waste no time with trying to immediately obliterate the listener, no foreboding intro, debut album, first track they have made a statement with opener 'Skywards'
What would happen if you really sped up Nightwish and then threw in utterly desolate vocals? The results are quite simply 'A Dark Divinity' and 'Shadow Fortress' the latter having some phenomenal guitar solos. Highlight track for me has to be 'Endless Light' it has some great melodic parts subtly injected which really add a great dynamic.
Forsaken Eternity add even more diversification to this album which is already pretty layered so far which is followed by the short instrumental almost serving as and interlude 'Sonata Concertata in Cm' sound like a very famous guitarist I was very obsessed with in the mid 90’s I’ve thought a few times that some of the guitar parts sound like his but more of that very soon…
There are two final tracks on this album which are just great album closers, title track 'A Kingdom of Ice' which starts off at a completely different tempo to the rest out the album, it’s short lived but again it’s another example of just why I’m increasing in fan level with every track, and if that wasn’t enough the last track 'Rising Force' is cover by none other than Yngwie Malmsteen – Honestly this is perfect, not only is a great cover but it really fits in with the aesthetic of the album. I mentioned earlier about the guitar parts sounding reminding me of someone so imagine my sheer elation that this is the final send off. Just a great album from start to finish.
