DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Splintered Throne

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Splintered Throne

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Splintered Throne sat on the beach. The island is far from the bands home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Lisa: I chose Judas Priest's 'Sad Wings of Destiny', because Dreamer Deceiver/ Deceiver is the most epic of all time.

Kris: I would have to have a Michael Schenker album. One specifically is a tough one. Or maybe one of the many RUSH albums.

Jmo: Iron Maiden 'Killers'. G.O.A.T. So much so, I have that Eddie tattooed on my right arm.

Dorado: This is always a tough one but I'll go with 'Scenes From a Memory' - Dream Theater. I listen to that CD a few times a month

Bailey: Rush '2112'

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Lisa: Iron Maiden's 'Somewhere in Time', it has so many tiny details to look at and will help me pass my time on this God forsaken island.

Kris: I would put up a Pink Floyd, or Jethro Tull Aqualung

Jmo: Either The Rods 'Let Them Eat Metal' or Lizzy Borden’s 'Love You to Pieces'. If you have to wonder why, then clearly you were not an adolescent male in the early 80’s.

Dorado: 'Night Rocker' - by The Hoff, of course!

Bailey: Rush 'Moving Pictures' (obviously I will be sneaking into JMo’s shack for inspiration)

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Lisa: Strong builder's tea with plenty of milk and a teaspoon of honey.

Kris: Either Pure Leaf Tea, or Heineken beer

Jmo: Jameson and Ginger Ale (AKA a Jameo)

Dorado: White Russian. This is always my go to when I'm unsure of what to have. BUT given that we are thinking tropical island I'd be down for a pineapple-cran-rum. MMMMM Yummy

Bailey: Ukrainian Mule (aka, a F*ck Putin)

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Lisa: I salvaged an XXL shirt, Splintered Throne of course.  It's big enough to serve as a blanket to keep me warm on chilly nights.

Kris: An XL t shirt would be good

Jmo:  My Death Angel koozee to keep my Jameo cold.

Dorado: A hoodie. I don't even care if it's a band, a sports team, or blank. I need my hoodie because I'm always cold.

Bailey: Band Maid black hoodie from San Francisco show

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Lisa: I'd be happy to be shipwrecked with these guys!  But perhaps I would also like to be shipwrecked with a very large chicken, who can lay eggs for me every morning, and snuggle with me at night.

Kris: Although all in the band would be great, my wife would be great to be shipwrecked with.

Jmo: Any of the winners of Alone on the History channel. My survival skills are very likely sub-par.

Dorado: I'm with JMo, survival skills are a definite plus. Maybe Ragga Ragnars.

Bailey: Sheena, she Queen of the Jungle and prolly got those survival skills down pat.

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Splintered Throne

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Lisa: Hard question! Maybe Sweden's Avatar, because few bands play better live than that band.

Kris: UFO 'Strangers in the Night', or Opeth 'Live at Red Rock'

Jmo: Anything from the Allman Brothers.

Dorado: 'A Friday Night in San Francisco' - DiMeola, deLucia, McLaughlin. Soooo good!

Bailey: Baby Metal - 'Live at Wembley'

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Lisa: I would send the message to Till Lindemann of Rammstein- I could jump on his back and he could swim me to the mainland.

Kris: Depending on the island and situation, I may not want to be rescued.

Jmo: Bailey for sure. He is our safety expert!!

Dorado: Bruce Dickinson of Maiden because he's a pilot.

Bailey: Sting cause he would get a message in a bottle and know what to do

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Lisa: Oh definitely Matt, cuz he probably tastes like Hawaiian chicken.

Kris: Draw straws?? Since I am a Vegan, I will stick with plants.

Jmo: Matt, because if he doesn’t taste like the chicken, he’ll taste like tacos.  Matt makes the best authentic tacos.

Dorado: What the hell?!! Why everybody want to chow down on me? I would have to go with Kris because he'll yield the most meat.

Bailey: Why is cannibalism the only way?  I figure dangle a drummer's leg in the water as bait, surely a shark wants a piece of that kick drum leg action.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Lisa: I saved Tobias Forge, because he rekindled my passion for hard rock and metal and inspired me to be a better songwriter and record producer.

Kris: Tough one... I would say Todd Sucherman or Mike Portnoy.

Jmo: The man in black, Lemmy.  From fashion to philosophy to just being an amazing human being.  Lemmy gets saved.

Dorado: I would have to say Frank Sumares. He was my college music professor. He pushed me more than anyone ever to be a solid musician. Miss that guy all the time.

Bailey: Kobato Miku (The Pigeon).  She went from being a literal maid in a Japanese maid café to the leader of Band Maid assembling some of the finest musicians in Japan and achieving World Domination. This girl rocks harder than just about any dude.
