DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Truth & Tragedy
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Truth & Tragedy sat on the beach. The island is far from the bands home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
We’ll kick off with our singer Aaron - he’d choose ‘City of Evil’ by Avenged Sevenfold, not because of the music, but because it was the first album he ever stole from Walmart when he was a kid (he was, and still is, a degenerate). Our guitarist Freddy picked ‘A Memory That No One Clings To’ by Empty Handed - it’s a pure metalcore masterpiece that still sounds modern today, and has a heavy influence on his song-writing for Truth & Tragedy. Our bassist, Vitali, says he’d pick ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ by Khurangbin (we have no idea what that is but he says it’s the perfect soundtrack to his shipwreck survival experience). Domi, our drummer, picked Blink 182’s ‘Take Off Your Pants and Jacket’ - it’s always boosted his mood and has five of his top ten favourite Blink tracks. Kai, our second guitarist, sadly must have drowned in the shipwreck before he could answer these questions, so we’ll be answering for him. He would pick his favourite album: Jonas Brothers - Self Titled (2008).
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Vitali picked ‘You’re Under Arrest’ by Miles Davis - what better to cool you down from a hot day in the desert than the Prince of Darkness himself!? Plus, nothing is better than waking up every morning to this sexy MF. Aaron picked ‘Homesick’ by A Day To Remember - he’s a huge fan of animated artwork and the colors are kinda trippy - it’s a perfect visual in case there might be an assortment of “wild” mushrooms on the island… Domi went for Queen’s ‘Bicycle’ - I mean a bunch of naked women on bikes… it’s going to get lonely on a desert island! And Freddy loves ‘Post Human Survival Horror’ by Bring Me The Horizon - because look at that shit!! It’s fuckin’ cool and mystical and all that… (it seems he might have found the mushroom assortment already).
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
This is starting to sound even more like a holiday… are you sure Freddy isn’t behind all this? He’d pick good ol’ Franconian beer because he is a good German boy and can’t do without his medicine. Domi is getting into the holiday swing with a classic Cuba Libre. Vitali reckons he’s fancy and wants to see how big your budget is at The Razor’s Edge, so went with Champagne and Club Mate. He says it’s because he can drink it all day and all night and won’t get as dehydrated as with beer, but really he’s just a hipster. Aaron likes chocolate milk.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Domi wants Bring Me The Horizon BBQ Sauce - because it actually exists, and now we all want some... Aaron chose the plastic water bottle he got from M. Shadows at a show (there’s still a bit of backwash in there, it’s amazing). Vitali chose his Darko long-sleeve - ‘cause this band slaps hard, plus no skin cancer for me thank you very much! Freddy went for his very own Truth & Tragedy shirt because he’s a narcissist, and Kai can’t go anywhere without his Jonas Brothers jammies.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
OBVIOUSLY OUR GIRLFRIENDS (in case they’re reading this). But what would be better is some hybrid crew of Captain Jack Sparrow, Nickelback and a golden retriever to hang out with - that would be sick!!!
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Aaron would go for Bon Jovi’s 1985 Tokyo show, no question! Vitali went for Snarky Puppy - ‘We Like It Here’, ‘cause he’s listened to it 500 times and the solo kills him every time. Freddy could forever watch and rewatch Nirvana’s last show with Kurt on MTV Unplugged, and Domi went for Queen’s Live Aid show in Wembley, of course.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Aaron said, quote: “none of you would piss on me if I was on fire, so I’m fucked” - not sure if that answers your question? Domi would try Jack Black - chances of failure are high, but it’s gonna be hilarious.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
We’d eat Kai. In fact we already have. He wasn’t good. Aaron is next on the list ‘cause he’s got the juiciest ass. Vitali would be next, he looks like he’d be rich in nutrients. Then it would be Hunger Games between Freddy and Domi - and our money is on Domi.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Domi would save Dr. Dre, just so he has an excuse to hang out with him. Freddy picked Joel
Quartuccio, vocalist from Being As An Ocean - super talented, plus he just seems like such a
nice fella! Kai would choose his favorite Jonas Brother, Nick. Vitali isn’t much of a fanboy, but
has one friend he would always play music with, who broadened his horizons more than any
tune or band ever did - and he’s thankful to him. (We like Vitali, he’s a nice guy.) Aaron would
save Chad Kroger, because Nickelback is life. Fuck this, in fact - we take back what we said
before - we’d all save Chad.
