DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Trapped In Thought
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Trapped In Thought sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Michael: Whitechapel - self titled, this was an easy one because it was the first album that got me into Whitechapel (one my favourite metal bands) and Phil Bozeman’s vocals literally blew me away.
Stephen: Of Glaciers - Heart Museum, I had to think about this one for a minute, but if I’m going to have to listen to the same album over and over, I want it to have bangers from start to finish. This album has nothing but that. They’re a small metal core band that disbanded after one album, but it has everything that I look for in a hardcore/metalcore album.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Mike: Asking Alexandria - Stand up and Scream, This was the first album that got me into heavy music, so it’ll always have a special place in my heart
Stephen: All shall Perish - The price of Existence, This was one of my first favourite deathcore bands, and frankly the album artwork is not only deep in nature but also metal as f***.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Mike: Rum and coke (specifically captain Morgan), especially for Friday night with the boys.
Stephen: only one drink? Probably water, or Fresca, I don’t like to drink my calories.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Mike: My Whitechapel This Is Exile wall flag. The album is just a banger and I love the artwork too.
Stephen: An invent, animate dad ball cap. I’m bald so I gotta keep that head covered or I’ll be flaking worse than a passion flakey.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Mike: My Whitechapel This Is Exile wall flag. The album is just a banger and I love the artwork too.
Stephen: An invent, animate dad ball cap. I’m bald so I gotta keep that head covered or I’ll be flaking worse than a passion flakey.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Mike: Easy, Suicide Silence, tribute to Mitch Lucker. That one is a no brainer
Stephen: Yeah, I’ve got to go with the same thing. It’s all the best vocalists of the scene at that time doing versions you would normally never here. Once in a lifetime show.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Mike: I’d send it to Jake Taylor from In Hearts Wake. He’s an outdoorsman and super good guy, he would go to any lengths to make sure a person is safe.
Stephen: I’d go with Dave Grohl, I feel like he’s a good dude and he’s got the financial backing to order a helicopter to pick us up haha.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Mike: Stefan, He’s got some nice meat on his bones, I don’t think it would be tough either, it’d be nice and tender.
Stephen: I think I might go with Jake, he’s a tall dude so he’s got lots of meat on his bones. Plus he’s the same size as me so I would take a lord of the flies approach and take out my biggest competition.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Mike: Thats Brandon Gatten, vocalist of Three Crowns that were a local Kitchener band. He helped shape how I do my vocals, my stage presence, and is just a pleasant guy to be around.
Stephen: I’d pick Jon Howard from Threat Signal. Not only did he record and mix our album, but his band threat signal inspired me to start a band when I first saw them at 16. The inspiration that seeing them gave me still hasn’t left to this day.
