Bloodstock Bound: Dunes
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Dunes!
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Dunes: Hi, we’re Dunes; we’ve got John Davies on guitar/vocals, Nikky Watson and on drums and myself Ade Huggins on bass/vocals.
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?
Dunes: We’re stoner/desert rock, not that metal really (sorry!), we’ve got big riffs with some big hooks.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Dunes: Our pals in Swamp Coffin, who slayed the Jager stage last year, mentioned that there were some slots available and we got in touch, so here we are and there we’ll be. Big up the Rov’rum massive, those guys are mint, heaviest thing to come out of Rotherham since Jive Bunny did their first death metal album.
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Dunes: It’s great, we’re really excited about it, we’re definitely not as heavy as a lot of the bands on the lineup but I think people will dig hearing something a bit different. Hopefully anyway, we’re f*cked if not eh!
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Dunes: We were told there’s not the budget to do our normal pyro and exotic dancers so it’ll probably be three half-cut lads from the North of England playing loud riffs and probably wearing some combination of denim and Hawaiian shirts.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Dunes: Friday night, which is perfect for us, hoping people are gonna be proper up for it and not too sunburned or ravaged by general festival excess at that point in the weekend. Get down, have a dance.
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Dunes: There’s tons and we’re hoping to just take in some new stuff but we are definitely going to catch Crowbar, those guys are fucking legendary so cannot miss them. Bossk are also unbelievably good so hope to get along for them. We’ll definitely be catching Cambridgeshire band The Grey on Saturday, they’re on the Sophie Lancaster Stage, we played with them in London last year and they blew our minds, I (Ade) also managed to catch them in Rotherham a couple weeks later, can’t recommend them enough. We’ll also be catching those Tuskar lads as well, we played with them about 5 years ago in Middlesbrough when we were both supporting Red Fan, mint dudes and they’ve been doing great things over the last couple years so it’ll be amazing to see them again. Also by Saturday we’ll definitely need Abbath...
The Razor's Edge: Playing the Jager Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Dunes: We’ve got loads coming up actually, it’s all got a bit silly, we’re currently working on our third album which we’ll be recording later in the year for release in 2024. Then just over a month after Bloodstock we’re heading to the USA for our first tour of the States, we’re starting at Desertfest New York and working our way down to Austin, Texas for Ripplefest Texas, we’re obviously very excited to get over there. Aside from all that we’re down in London in July with a couple of return gigs due later in the year. We did a UK tour with Fatso Jetson and High Desert Queen from the States in May so looking forward to getting back on the road a bit between now and Christmas. We’ll be doing a couple UK tours in 2024 and aiming to get over the States and Europe also so we’re also currently putting together plans for all of that, exciting times as they say!
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Dunes: We’ll be camping wherever we end up collapsing I reckon, we’ve got some pals coming to the festival already, from In The Abyss podcast, some of the guys from London based band The Grudge who are a top band and lush dudes (seriously, check them out), and also the chaps from Heavy Threads merch will be around, so we’ll no doubt be causing havoc with all of them and anyone’s welcome along for the ride!
The Razor's Edge: How many Jager shots will you be consuming over the weekend?
Dunes: We’ll be drinking AAAALLLL OF THEM AND WE’LL FIGHT ANYONE THAT TRIES TO STOP US!
The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!
Dunes: Damn straight you will, we can’t wait to get down and see what it’s all about! Thanks for featuring us, you’re gorgeous x
