Bloodstock Bound: This Summit Fever
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.
Today we chat with This Summit Fever!
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
This Summit Fever: My name is Andy Blackburn and I play the guitar and sing. Jim McSorley plays the drums.
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?
This Summit Fever: We have a lot of influences - but I’d probably say that we fall somewhere within the Stoner Rock style. We use heavy fuzz for the guitar sound and the grooves are kind of Sabbathy in places. There’s also a lot of blues in our sound too.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
This Summit Fever: Well, we have tried a couple of times to win a place at Bloodstock via Metal To The Masses. That was a brilliant experience for us but we didn’t make it. However I saw a post online about the Jäger stage and that there was an application process. We sent our EPK, live video and a few months later we got an email out of the blue saying that we had been successful.
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
This Summit Fever: Although our band only really started about two years ago, Jim and myself met more than 20 years ago at college. We were listening to bands like Sepultura and Meshuggah back then. If you’d told the 16 / 17 year old Jim and Andy that one day we’d have the privilege of playing a festival like Bloodstock, we would have said that you were high, haha.
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
This Summit Fever: There’s only two of us in the band so we always feel like we are the underdogs - that we have something to prove to bands with four or five people in them. So for that reason whether we are playing to 3 people or 300 people we always play like it’s our last gig. Every show counts and we will of course give it our all at Bloodstock.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
This Summit Fever: We are playing on Friday 11th of August.
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
This Summit Fever:Definitely Meshuggah! We will also go and see Tuskar on the Sophie stage, Nameless on the New Blood stage, Sepultura and Megadeth on the main stage and of course we will watch most of the other bands on the Jäger stage too.
The Razor's Edge: Playing the Jager Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
This Summit Fever: We have had a really great reaction to our latest EP Distraction Rituals which came out in April 2023. We are currently working on the next batch of songs so hopefully some more doors will open for us in 2024 when we release it.
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
This Summit Fever: We will be camping but we’re not sure of the location yet.
The Razor's Edge: How many Jager shots will you be consuming over the weekend?
This Summit Fever: Once our set is done then as many as we can until the pocket money runs out, haha.
The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!
This Summit Fever: Yeah man! Thank you for your time.
