DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Lunarian

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Lunarian

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Lunarian sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Rino: Vampire Weekend – Modern Vampires of the City. A perfect mood booster.

Anink: Mariah Carey’s Christmas album. Because I were to be lost I want to be lost merrily.

Willy: Jamiroquai – Greatest Hits ’99. Might as well be dancing.

Ekky: No Doubt – Rocksteady. Gwen’s sexy voice would be a good companion.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Willy: Royal Blood’s self-titled album. It’s keen for my eyes with its artistry

Ekky: Muse – The 2nd Law. It’s so colourful I can count them whenever I’m bored.

Rino: Kvelertak’s self-titled album. It’s giddy!

Anink: Nirvana – Nevermind, I’m still curious how can I save the baby.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Anink: Red wine, because I’m pretentious like that.

Rino: Shots of whisky never fails!

Ekky: Baileys, sweet like me.

Willy: Bombay Sapphire, my go-to drink.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Rino: I’m going to deviate from band topic and save my One Piece limited edition lighter..

Ekky: My cute Backstreet Boys beanie..

Anink: I was going to say lighter to smoke but apparently I can borrow that from Rino, so I’m going to be the second person deviating from band topic and save my AC Milan jersey..

Willy: Beastie Boys trucker hat. It’s just a cool thing to save.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Willy: Gordon Ramsey, he can cook! I don’t care about the mental burden as long as I can eat…

Ekky: Emma Stone, because… She’s… Pretty.. (??)

Rino: Colin Farrell, so I can polish me irish accent lad…

Anink: Kim Ji Soo, should I explain further?

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Lunarian

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Anink: Slipknot in London 2002.

Rino: Rammstein’s Volkerball! Or any of their shows really. They’re never disappointing.

Ekky: Backstreet Boys’ Black and Blue tour in Los Angeles 2001.

Willy: Adele live in Royal Albert Hall. Now I know…

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Rino: Tom Morello. I just feel that he’s the type that would go the extra mile to save others.

Willy: Who else other than Bono, lol.

Anink: Bim Bim from Slank. Even though knowing him it might take a bit longer but he’s a kind and cool guy.

Ekky: Wes Borland, I’ve always imagined he could be a water-human.

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Rino, Willy, Ekky: Anink.

Anink: I knew this would happen.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Anink: Paul Gilbert from Mr Big. He’s the guy that changed my perspective in my guitar playing, who made me want to go into the depth to have a good guitar, save money to learn and buy cassettes and books about guitar.

Willy: Jay Kay of Jamiroquai. His genius works in disco influenced me big time in my bass playing. The most important thing I took from their music is how to maintain the enjoyment while playing.

Ekky: Adrian Young from No Doubt. He’s a musician that showed me how to be creative in a simple way. He influenced me in a big way of how to be a great drummer without taking out the fun.

Rino: Thom Yorke from Radiohead. He’s in that band that opened my eyes to a new perspective that creating music is to be fully exploring. In my early days of producing songs, whenever I feel that it’s been “too much” in terms of arrangement, experiment, vocalization etc, I always imagined to dive into Radiohead’s mind first – would it also be too much for them?
