DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring King Nun
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find King Nun sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Nathan: London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Planet Suite originally composed by Holst. It is calming. Being stuck on an island would probably make me panic.
Theo: Dreams Come True - Hi, I Love You Right Heartily Here: New Songs by Judee Sill, she has a beautiful voice, I think the songwriting is perfect, it’s a really long album and it is very sentimental to me.
Ethan: Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins, I like that the guitars sounds like brrrrrrrrr
Caius: Around the Fur by Deftones
James: Canto Palo Y Cuero by Martina Camargo, has a beautiful atmosphere and is fun.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Ethan: Portal 2, the poster of the soundtrack.
Nathan: Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here, obvious choice.
Caius: Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here, sick photo.
James: Marquee Moon by Television.
Theo: The White Album by the Beatles.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Nathan: Water - hydration is paramount.
Theo: Water - hydration is paramount.
James: Water - hydration is paramount.
Caius: Water - hydration is paramount.
Ethan: Water - I like the taste.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
James: A coffin made by the band Kiss, useful in this situation.
Nathan: King Nun A/W 2023 Collection.
Theo: A Marshall tote.
Caius: My Primark Ramones t shirt.
Ethan: Sonic Youth Washing Machine shirt, although the washing machine itself would be more ideal.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
James: Ray Mears, he knows his shit and would be a good laugh.
Ethan: Bear Grylls, I like the taste.
Nathan: A member of the royal family so the rescue search would be supported internationally and I might get off this island.
Theo: Myself.
Caius: Cujo.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
James: Babylon by bus by Bob Marley and the Wailers
Nathan: Nirvana live at the Paramount
Ethan: Placebo unplugged.
Theo: The Rolling Thunder Review: The 1975 Live recordings by Bob Dylan
Caius: How The West Was Won by Led Zeppelin.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Nathan: We are writing to Sting:
Dear Sting,
Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, oh
Another lonely day with no one here but me, oh
More loneliness than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair, oh
I'll send an S.O.S to the world
I'll send an S.O.S to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
A year has passed since I wrote my note
I should have known this right from the start
Only hope can keep me together
Love can mend your life or love can break your heart
I'll send an S.O.S to the world
I'll send an S.O.S to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Oh, message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Walked out this morning, I don't believe what I saw
Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone at being alone
Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home
I'll send an S.O.S to the world
I'll send an S.O.S to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, oh
Message in a bottle, yeah
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
I'm sending out an S.O.S
I'm sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Sending out an S.O.S
Hope he finds it.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
James. Sorry James. We would kill him off early, he would slow us down. It’s the right thing to do.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
James: Elvis
Nathan: Whoever wrote Greensleeves
Ethan: Mozart
Theo: Roy Orbison
Caius: C418
