DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Misery Lane
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Ken of MIsery Lane sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Hey this is Ken the vocalist/lead guitarist/main songwriter. The other guys told me to answer so I guess they threw me overboard. The album I would grab would “And Justice for All” by Metallica. The messaging in the album is phenomenal and got me through some pretty tough times when I was kid and here I am again in some tough times. Now where did I put that lighter? I need to get a fire going.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Deftones “Around the Fur” because it has boobs on it LOL.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Vodka and pop. Could be Coke or Pepsi. This drink has been a great way to calm down and relax over the years and now that I’m stuck here, I could use it but so far I have music and a bar so it aint so bad. If I had my guitar I could just say, “Bye Felecia.” LOL
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
I don’t think the band matters but any band that sells CDs. The CDs could be fashioned together to make a giant mirror for signalling passing ships and planes so I can get the hell out of here. Hehe.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Traci Lords. She’s may boy/man crush. If I’m gonna be stuck on an island why not be stuck with a beautiful woman. I met her once but I doubt she’d remember.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
I hope I have a solar powered batter charger for this Walkman. I’d say I’d have to pick the Scorpions “Worldwide Live”. When I was a kid, I would listen to that LP on repeat and air guitar my life away.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Gene Simmons from KISS. Let’s face they have everything on the planet as merch so I’m sure they could scrounge up a KISS boat and helicopter to come help me out. Although I’m sure I’d be charged for it lol.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
I was Marine we wouldn’t have to sacrifice anyone but since they threw me overboard and I can’t eat myself I guess it’s time to do what Uncle Sam trained me to do and survive. By the time someone got there I’d probably have a three story, eight-bedroom house built. LOL. Just kidding but I would have no trouble surviving.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
James Hetfield. He was the reason I started playing guitar and his lyrics were on point with some life situations that I’m sure everyone could relate to. Drinks, a nice fire, good place to sleep, jamming with James everyday and cuddling up with Traci at night. Wait why is this bad again? I think I’d have to thank the guys for this one ha-ha.
