DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Drip Fed Empire

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Drip Fed Empire

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Drip Fed Empire sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Burcher - Very Hard choice, for me personally I'd have to say Octavarium by Dream Theater. The whole album is so well put together and I really love the combination of musical content within it.

Jay - 2 RUFF, Vol 1 by Chase & Status. It just dropped and it’s Baddadan the rest

Jack - The Mindsweep by Enter Shikari! Was an eye opening album to me with what they could actually write. It’s still one of my all-time favourite albums!

Jordan - Probably Your Time To Shine by Monolord, I've been razzing it a lot lately and it's one of those albums I can listen to over and over again.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Burcher - I'm actually a huge retrowave fan, I love the aesthetic especially. I'd have to say The Midnight - Endless Summer is my favourite album cover and looking at that poster would put a few of their songs in my head for that day.

Jay - Famous Monsters by The Misfits. I don’t think I could ever get sick of looking at those guys in there get ups

Jack - Abby Road by the Beatles! Just a classic album and an iconic scene

Jordan - Dark Side Of The Moon. Just loved that album since I first listened to it.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Burcher - Again, really hard choices haha, I'd have to say Lambs navy rum. I've lost my taste for sweet rums most people go for, I like the flavour of it and it's not too sweet for me.

Jordan - I seconded burcher on Rum.. any rum to be honest. Just need rum.

Jack - I gotta go with a pint of Tennets lager. My favourite drink when I visit home and just gives me good memories! (Bad bad but we don’t talk about that)

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Jack - my bring me the horizon hoodie! Had it since 2013 and I’ve grown fond of the little guy

Burcher - There's a band called Collapse the Sky that I really like, the shirt is black and yellow and I really like the design. Long sleeve is for the win on those cold nights by the sea!

Jordan - My Metallica longsleeve. It might get cold…

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Burcher - Honestly, I think I would prefer to have been ship wrecked with a broken spy glass up my a**. Band mates are family - not always easy to live with haha. If I had to choose others I'd say my partner, and a few of my friends but in all honesty band mates come first. How else are we going to write the next album with no computers and all that time to kill?

Jordan - Darth Vader. Just because you said who I'd rather.

Jack - honestly would say my whole friendship group (including the band) would just rather be surrounded by people I actually enjoy spending the majority of my time with!

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Burcher - It has to be Bring Me the Horizon 2023 at download, honestly they took showman ship to the next level. The stage show, planning and visuals/pyrotechnics was also brilliant, the whole package was bang on, I'm very sure it's something we can all agree on.

Jack - I need to agree with burcher on this. Bring me the horizon at download 2023 was unbelievable like legit changed my perspective of what a new headliner could and should be!

Jordan - wow that one is rough… simply for how they sounded live, Gojira in Cardiff, 2022.. one of if not these best shows I've ever been to.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Burcher - I would say Sting but he probably already has an extensive backlog of fan mail sent via bottle. I'd probably send it to Bruce Dickinson, provided that the island is large enough for me to build a runway.

Jordan - technically is in a band, but Johnny Depp. He's got off islands with turtles tied together with the hair from his back… hell know what to do.

Jack - I’d say Dave Grohl! Man has helped so many people in the past and also helped out when some minors got stuck in a underground mine! Gave them free tickets and beer and I feel like he would do his best to help!

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Burcher - Usually this means sacrificing the bass player, this is nothing new for bands in general, you listen to a mix and it's like they weren't even at the studio haha. However in this scenario my method would be to sacrifice whoever is least skilled at “islanding” I have building skills and am organised clear and focused in an outdoor setting. However the remaining three are equally useless in this regard so I'm still going to sacrifice the bass player. Sorry Jack x

Jordan - can't I just have them all? Burcher says he can build yet doesn't build a raft… he may be able to build but his brain can't build a sentence. But I'll go with Jack to.. probably has the best meat on him..

Jack - first of all the guys above are bastards for sacrificing me. I’d personally pick Jordan as I like to think he has the best bite of meat to him.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Burcher - Hmmm let's see, I think I would have to say Mike Managi of Dream Theater. Mike is not only a fantastic musician and original thinker but I also find him to be a great personality. Mangini undoubtedly possesses the calibre necessary to build traps and catch animals.

Jordan - Guess that's Eric Clapton or Tony Iommi then… probably Tony.

Jack - Roy Renoylds! When I found enter shikari my world changed in a way. The words he was using and the things he stands for resonated with me in a way I hadn’t found before. 100% him!
