DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Ashen Reach
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Ashen Reach sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Joe: The album I'd grab would be Van Halen 1, because it sounds fresh and exciting 46 years later!
Paddy: I would choose Fortress by Alter Bridge. I remember being in sixth form when it came out. It was the first album I was ever excited for, literally counting the days until it released. It's still the only album I've ever heard where pretty much every song on it, is title track worthy. It could only really be this album.
Kyle: Linkin Park - Meteora. One of my all time favourite albums.
Jess: This is a cruel question... If I could have a personal compilation CD of all my favourite Rammstein songs, I'd have that. If it has to be a real album, then probably Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Joe: Somewhere In time by Iron Maiden, because there's an almost never-ending stream of things to find and discover on there to keep you occupied.
Paddy: Probably Black Widow by In This Moment. It's an awesome album, and the cover would definitely make me feel better in such a hopeless situation.
Kyle: Slipknot's Debut album, because Joey Jordison is my idol.
Jess: The remastered anniversary edition of Herzeleid by Rammstein. It makes me smile.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Joe: I don't drink so it would have to be Filtered Water or Pineapple Juice.
Paddy: If I'm on an isolated island, with little-to-no hope of rescue, probably Mercury. If there's some hope of rescue, I guess Sangria!
Kyle: Zero Bubbles Orange Fanta. (I don't drink and this is my crack).
Jess: Specifically 'cans' of Pepsi Max.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Joe: Ashen Reach "The Fear" Hoodie in XXXL for maximum warmth and cover.
Paddy: My limited edition, Ashen Reach 'Ghosts' comic art shirt, so that when it's eventually lost to the elements, the rest will go up in value. You're welcome, fellow comic shirt owners.
Kyle: Big ass Slipknot hoodie, to keep warm.
Jess: Official Rammstein Fire Box, to keep me warm on those cold
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Joe: Kate Beckinsale
Paddy: Well, one of my bandmates is my fiancée so, for legal reasons, I have to say our drummer, Jess.
Kyle: Margot Robbie
Jess: My parents, siblings, and Paddy can stay I suppose.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Joe: Van Halen, London Rainbow Theatre, 1978
Paddy: Alter Bridge - Live at the Royal Albert Hall.
Kyle: Slipknot - Live in London The Disasterpieces Tour
Jess: Devin Townsend at the Royal Albert Hall. Deadhead *chef's kiss*
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Joe: Bruce Dickinson because the legendary f*cker can fly a plane and come pick us up.
Paddy: Honestly, I wouldn't have thought of it, but I can't really argue with Joe's answer, haha!
Kyle: Bruce Dickinson, because he can literally fly a plane.
Jess: Rammstein, because I have to meet them before I die and I might as well try my luck. I love them.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Joe: The Bassist.
Paddy: I'd sacrifice myself so that my fiancée and band family could survive, and also just to put an end to the misery... haha!
Kyle: Joe, because he is vegan so technically should have healthier meat.
Jess: I feel like even though he would try to cheer everyone up, Kyle.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Joe: Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox 😎🤤
Paddy: Myles Kennedy, for sure.
Kyle: Joey Jordison. He is the whole reason I became a musician.
Jess: Christoph Schneider.
