EP Review: Morgue Terror - Morgue Terror

Two piece death metal outfit Morgue Terror are here to kick off the 2024 release schedule as they release their new EP of horror influenced death metal
This self titled EP doesn't take its time to introduce you to Morgue Terror and the sound they bring to the table. Hailing from Buffalo New York play a rather groove filled style of death metal in the vein of legendary bands from the same city going by the name of Baphomet and of course Cannibal Corpse. Along with having this classic sound the band also include a huge horror influence within both the sound and artwork of this self titled release taking huge influence from the Terrifier Movies. Along with the band's very obvious old school death metal style you also hear the twopiece band bring in sounds from outside of the death metal genre and use them within its sound.
When I listen to the breakdown section of the opening track 'Salt The Wound' I hear a real groove filled hardcore vibe within that particular section of the song. Morgue Terror do have a very good ear for creating groove within the riffs contained in this release but they don’t just stick to groove they bring in some more ferocity into the output with its finale 'Chopped Up Chum' being a two and a half minute monster of vicious death metal fury. Where I do feel this release is lacking is with the drums, at points they are very bland and I feel that with a bit more variety within them they would have more of an effect on the overall flow of the release and maybe would have continued to bring out even more of a ferocious side to it.
On the whole this is a well performed slab of old school death metal with a new school feel to it. It won't win any originality awards but for fans of a groove laden approach rather than an all out assault it should tick the right boxes.
