DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Edit The Tide
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Edit The Tide sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Rob - Phil Collins The Hits. If I’m on a desert island I need to bop, cry and rock out. Phil’s got it all!
Benjamin - Killswitch Engage- alive or just breathing. They brought me into this world. So they can be the ones the hold my hand on the way out. THE TIME APPROACHES!!!
Rudy - The Lord Of The Rings Soundtrack, reason being that I don't think I'd ever get sick of listening to it.
Gav - Pink Floyd - The Wall It’s a class album and ultimately lead me to teaching myself how to play the guitar.
Dave – I would have said Killswitch Engage- alive or just breathing too but Bens taken that.. It would have to be ‘The Fragile’ by Nine Inch Nails, its two discs long and takes you in many different directions so you’d always have something for the mood you were in that particular day.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Rob - Master of Puppets-Iconic.
Benjamin - Blink 182- enema of the state. Because it’s 1- iconic. 2- I’ve got to have at least something to look at when the sun goes down.
Rudy - Gojira - From Mars To Sirius.
Gav - Nirvana – Insecticide, Incredible artwork
Dave – KISS – Rock And Roll Over
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Rob - Cold lager in a bottle.
Benjamin - If it’s on a boiling hot desert island. Then they’re called dapperanos. Apple juice mixed with disaronno. It’s all the positives of getting hammered poured into a glass mixed with one of your 5 a day. Obvious choice for me. Lots of ice if possible though please.
Rudy - Apple Jack Daniels, mmmm
Gav - Gimme a keg of beer
Dave – I hardly drink these days so for me, an unlimited supply of Yorkshire Tea!
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Rob - It would be my breaking bad top, I don’t really wear much band merch
Benjamin - It’s not really merch, well I suppose it kind of is. But I was at the front at main stage in download in a circle pit listening to Slipknot. And from no where a blonde long haired 80’s metal wig landed on my shoulder. I put it on and felt as if I was reborn. I looked like Vince Neil circa 1980. It was as it was gifted to me from heaven itself. I didn’t take it off. And it’s never been far from my side since. I literally don’t care if I have to live forever in nudity. If I have that wig on, I’m immortal.
Rudy - A hat (gingers burn easily) from the band Killswitch Engage.
Gav - ‘Edit The Tide’ Chocolate Biscuits
Dave - A KISS Casket (Yes they really exist haha) and I’d try to use it as a boat if we got desperate.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Rob - Hayley from Paramore.
Benjamin - Hans zimmer and a full orchestra. Seeing as I’m probably going to die on this island, being as dramatic as i am. I want my last moments orchestrated and composed by the genius himself. If he can make me feel like I’m on my way to the Elysium while I snuff it. I’d feel a lot better about things. Killswitch are also apart of the orchestra amongst this rare state of affairs.
Rudy - David Attenborough.
Gav - Rod Hull and Emu
Dave – Larry David
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Rob - Incubus in the royal Albert Hall 2022
Benjamin - Rob took my answer for this one. So the close second is biffy Clyro in Cardiff 2022.
Rudy - Alan Holdsworth, The Metropole Abertillery 2008.
Gav - Pearl Jam MTV awards 1992
Dave – Pantera : Live at Moscow - Monsters of Rock 1991. The amount of times I watched that on the Pantera Home Videos when I was younger is crazy!
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Rob - Randy from Lamb Of God. He’d bring a Submarine I’m sure.
Benjamin - Jack black and Kyle as one wouldn’t come without the other. Can you imagine them two on a rescue mission for you. Picture it. Hear it. Live it in your head. Now tell me that’s not a good choice.
Rudy - Christopher Cross, the song "sailing" surely implies he may at least have access to a boat?
Gav - Bruce Dickinson so he can pick me up in his plane
Dave – Dave Grohl – He would obviously make his way back home with me, once he’s learnt to fly…… (I’ll see myself out…)
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Rob - I’m the fattest so…
Benjamin - Well Rob’s my uncle so eating him would make me feel really uncomfortable. I don’t wanna see that. Gav would just knock me out if I even tried it and if Rudy’s goes, I have no use for a left-over drum kit I’m shit at playing drums. Dave on the other hand has just bought two new Dingwall basses… Dave it is.
Rudy - Literally any of them, but if I had to pick... probably Ben because he is virtually hairless and probably easier to consume.
Gav - Bob (Rob) for eating all the Greggs pasties
Dave – Probably Ben because he’s always at the gym and would be full of Protein
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Rob - Thom Yorke
Benjamin - Brandon Boyd. He is Jesus. And that’s all there is to say on that.
Rudy - Matt Halpern
Gav - Mark Knopfler
Dave – If he was still with us then 100% it would be Dimebag Darrell
