Bloodstock Bound: King Kraken
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.
Today we chat with King Kraken!
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
King Kraken: Hey readers, we are King Kraken and we consist of Rich Mears on drums, Pete Rose on rhythm guitar, Mark Donoghue on vocals, Karl Meyer on bass and Adam Healey on lead guitar.
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?
King Kraken: Primordial Radio once called us the UK's answer to Clutch, we think that’s a pretty good comparison all we would add is that were play huge slabs of monster riffage, gravel etched vocals with a hint of Mastodon, Black Sone Cherry and on times….Black Sabbath.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
King Kraken: Our manager applied to Bloodstock themselves and we got the slot. We were ecstatic that we had been chosen to play, Mark even did a cartwheel and broke a hip!
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
King Kraken: We entered the South Wales M2TM competition back in 2019 and we came 3rd so we know what it’s like to be so close to something and have it taken away. We were absolutely gutted, now to be awarded it and given a slot is an unbelievable feeling. It's going to be the biggest thing we do this year. Bloodstock is our next gig so all our preparation, focus and planning is on that at the moment.
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
King Kraken: Massive riffs, head banging tunes, chest crushing bass, neck snapping leads, vocals that sound like he swallowed half a ton of gravel, possibly some new songs and TENTACLES.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
King Kraken: We will be performing Friday evening on the EMP stage
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
King Kraken: Amon Amarth, Clutch, Green Lung, Hatebreed, Unleash the Archer, Flogging Molly, Raised by Owls, Vintage Caravan, Sylosis, South of Salem, Tailgunner, She Burns Red
The Razor's Edge: Playing the EMP Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
King Kraken: We are hoping to as you said above use it as a stepping stone for us. On the Monday after Bloodstock we are going straight into the studio to record album two with the world-renowned producer Romesh Dodengoda in Cardiff. It's fully written and ready to go. We are loving the music and consider it a natural evolution in our writing since our debut ‘MCLXXX’. Once that’s done we’re going to be releasing some singles and in the new year album two will be upon us along with a headline tour and all that comes with it. As for world domination the proceeds from album two will partly fund our acquisition of our first evil lair. I know Mark has his sights set on a volcanic island.
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
King Kraken: We damn sure are camping with the fans, we know our place and we’re best amongst the fans. We love meeting the fans and we feel it’s important that they get to know us, especially at this early stage of the bands development.
The Razor's Edge: It’s festival weekend, what’s your food vendor of choice on site?
Kin Kraken: I always head for Indian food at a festival. It’s never been a mistake thus far so I will be going to Ranvs Rasoi Indian, wooooo!
