DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring ForeignWolf

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring ForeignWolf

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we found alt-rockers ForeignWolf sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, but how did he end up here and how did he cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Dave: 'Set List' by The Frames. One of the best live albums I have ever listened too.
Jay: I would grab Bad Rabbits album 'American Love'. Its bouncy and a great album to bop your head to. It would help the blues of having no access to coffee that's for sure.
Gerard: I would choose 'American Idiot' by Green Day. This is the album that got me into rock music, it's the album that made me want to be a musician and it also contains some of my all time favourite songs.
Mick: Meshuggah’s 'Destroy Erase Improve'. It’s an album that took Metal to a previously unheard level; it’s extremely technical and miles ahead of anything else that came out around that time.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Dave: Joe Satriani – 'Surfing with the Alien', The Silver Surfer is just awesome.
Jay: Ohh, it would have to be Alexisonfire's E.P. 'Dogs Blood'. I could stare at that art work all day. In fact, I have a framed LP of it up in my apartment now.
Gerard: My album cover would be 'Changing Tune' by Lower than Atlantis. The cover is so vibrant and interesting to look at and has always gave me good vibes since I first heard it.
Mick: 'Houses of the Holy' by Led Zeppelin. The artwork features the Giant’s Causeway so that would remind me of Home and make me want to get back.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to chose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Dave: I would normally say a good whiskey but seeing as I am on a Beach I’m going to say Morgan Spiced with Mango Loco Monster.
Jay: Coffee or Redbull, I'm boring and don't drink but I couldn't get by without some caffeine.
Gerard: I'd definitely have to choose Bombay Sapphire and white lemonade with a lime. Easy but tastes perfect.
Mick: I’m the anti thesis of “Party Animal” - I don’t drink or do drugs, I like podcasts and books, so the wildest thing about me is that I drink copious amounts of black filter coffee.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Dave: My Joe Satriani Professor Satchafunkilus Fishing Hat hands down.
Jay: I have a 2006 Thursday tour hoodie that I am wearing to my grave. I life in it.
Gerard: Unfortunately, I only own one piece of merch so it would have to be that! It's a long sleeve shirt from Lower than Atlantis last show in Brixton academy.
Mick: A Slipknot onesie, because this is a hypothetical situation, so I imagine Slipknot will make an aerodynamic onesie for my Sasquatch shaped self!

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Dave: The entire cast from Anchorman and they all had to stay in role for the duration.
Jay: Ideally Willa Holland.... But I guess Dave, Gerard & Mick will do.
Gerard: Chad Kroeger, I may be stranded but at least I know I would be doing the world a favour.
Mick: Scarlett Johansson. Get stuck on an island with a bunch of lads or a beautiful woman? No brainer... Sorry lads! Haha

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Dave: Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous – first Live album I ever listened too.
Jay: Billy Talent played Belfast for the first time in 2019, and because it was a club show they just came on and took requests. Was like a jam session! was incredible.
Gerard: Alexisonfire live on the main stage at Reading Festival. For some reason that band hit so hard playing that stage.
Mick: How the West Was Won - Led Zeppelin Live at the Royal Albert Hall. The best version on Bonham’s Moby Dick solo! Phenomenal live set and absolutely perfect sounding drums - I worship it like it’s my religion!

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Dave: I’d message Dave Grohl. He is just the kind of guy you would want to find you. He would get your spirits up and would more than likely have Fresh Pots.
Jay: I would certainly put a message in a bottle to Tim Ward from The Fall of Troy, and ask him to teach me bass.
Gerard: I really don't know who I'd choose to rescue me. I'm sure it would have to be someone like Henry Rollins because he's a bad ass
Mick: Sting from The Police. I imagine he has a sixth sense for finding messages in bottles... If he can’t, he’s a big fraud! So I’d like to think he’d find our message and send a rescue attempt our way!

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Dave: I’d eat Gerard. Even though he pretends to be on a diet all the time, he loves a sneaky McDonald’s, so I’m guessing he would taste like a big mac.
Jay: I mean, Mick probably. Just because there is A LOT of him.
Gerard: Yea, definitely Mick.
Mick: They’re all gonna say me because I’m built like Bigfoot but I’ve been Vegan for nearly 4 years so I’ll taste like Tofu which will put their McDonald’s lovin’ asses off!

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Dave: Again my answer is Joe Satriani, possibly my favourite musician and inspiration of all time.
Jay: Oh that's a hard one.. Probably Geoff Rickley from Thursday, because he is a beautiful song writer and a very humble fella.
Gerard: Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day. He has been my idol from as early as I can remember. He has influenced my music, taste in instruments, dress sense. I pretty much just wanted to be him!
Mick: Iggor Cavalera, because I want to hear all about the Cavalera-era of Sepultura and how they made the “Roots” album. Collaborating with all those Brazilian tribes to incorporate traditional rhythms into a primitive style of aggressive Metal!
