Bloodstock Bound: Loyds Trip
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Loyds Trip
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Loyds Trip: Hello, My names Danny, I front Loyds Trip, were from Yorkshire… On Guitar we have James “Jimmy” Allen, Bass, Kane “Leadmill” Barton and Tom Jones on Drums…
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?
Loyds Trip: We are a garage rock 'n' roll band that plays hard and heavy, drawing inspiration from 70s acid-drenched hard blues rock. Our first-ever review likened us to "ZZ Top on crack," which we took as a massive compliment, as ZZ Top are collectively our favourite band, And I’m sure they all did crack….
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Loyds Trip: A friend gave me the email address of a promoter. While I was a bit drunk and feeling silly, I sent him some of our band's material, along with a message like "we're the best band ever, you have to book us." I completely forgot about it, but then two months later, I received an email saying they checked out our stuff and would like to offer us a slot. I thought it was a joke at first, maybe one of my friends messing with me, but it turns out it's for real. We're actually going to play, which is pretty wild for us.
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Loyds Trip: I mean, we started out by playing at parties, basements, and garages. We just love to play, so playing anywhere is great for us. This will be crazy fun - it will be nice to kick our jams mega loud to loads of new people. Hopefully, we'll also get to see some other cool bands do their thing. We just want a big mates fest!
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Loyds Trip: We are a pretty loud, wild, and unpredictable band. It's like a ritual - some sort of demonic possession takes over and we all become different entities for 40 minutes. But at the core, we're just a real, down-to-earth, dirty rock 'n' roll band with big energy and big hearts. It's our chemistry that always makes the show, and we just have a great time. We are more of a live band than anything else.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Loyds Trip: We are playing on the Sunday! Which is cool, sounds like prime time… maybe… we don’t have set times, but 8.45 was mentioned… but don’t hold me to that! Haha
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Loyds Trip: Our friends IL from Sheffield won their Metal 2 the Masses heat, which is really cool. Also, we had the pleasure of playing one of our first shows with Green Lung. I saw Eternal Champion at Temple Of Boom in Leeds a few years ago, and it was the best small show I've ever seen. Their vocalist James Tarpey had a sword with full chain mail, and it was completely sold out. I had taken some acid, so everything looked like a Frazzeta/Morcock heavy metal comic book. They are real masters of the riff and super cool! I'm also looking
forward to seeing Vintage Caravan, Desert Storm, and Hellripper. Baino and the Malev guys are good friends of mine, so seeing them is an absolute must! Steel City forever!
Honestly, I'll enjoy anything. Just give me a cold beer, a ciggy, and some people who love what they do on stage, and I'm in!
The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Loyds Trip: I'm excited about this! We've been holding on to a full-length album for a while now, loaded with all kinds of wild and crazy music. I'm going to head in and finish that. We also have a bunch of new tracks we want to record, and we're planning to make some moves with all of that. We're also working on putting together some tours with some friends. We'll be on tour right after Bloodstock with a wild band from Canada called "The Death Wheelers." They're absolute rippers, and you've got to check them out! We also have a few London shows coming up. As a band, we're hosting the "Cosmic Vibration Festival" in Sheffield on the 24th and 25th of August. We've got Poison Ruin, Duel, Iron Jinn, Sacri Monti, Inhuman Nature, Old Horn Tooth, Heavy Sentence, Aggressive Perfector, Margarita Witchcult, and many other killer bands lined up. Right now, we're offering 2 for 1 weekend tickets. So, come and join us in the steel city for that. We're set to open on the Saturday, so you know what to do! All hail the riff!
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Loyds Trip: We are! But I have no idea yet, hopefully the one with the most sun and some nice people too? We have a bunch of friends heading over to hang out with us, so we are going to get a big old teepee and jam!
The Razor's Edge: It’s festival weekend, what’s your food vendor of choice on site?
Loyds Trip: I Love Gyoza!
