Bloodstock Bound: Yersin

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Yersin

The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.

Yersin: I’m Chris and I’m the main vocalist in Yersin. We also have our drummer who’s also called Chris and our guitarist and backing vocalist Rob.

The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?

Yersin: It’s a really odd one as we all love all different types of music. Between the three of us we listen to metal music, drum and bass, country music. The list goes on.

When it comes to metal it’s the same. We like all sorts of sub-genres and nothing is off the table for us to try and incorporate. We’ve recently just started saying we’re an extreme metal band due to everything we incorporate.

The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

Yersin: So we’ve pestered both Simon and Vicky for years. One year we even tried to do a bit of a twitter campaign just to push our luck. This year Simon put up a post that he was booking for the EMP stage, we sent our EPK in and the rest they say is history. We had also had a lot of good reviews from the most recent album and a little bit of a buzz on the underground scene which may have helped influence his decision too.

The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

Yersin: It’s probably the only metal festival in the UK where we actually fit in. Yes Download are the “big boys” if you will but I’ve no idea where we’d fit there. It’s one to tick off the bucket list and it’s completely insane seeing our name on the poster with such huge acts.

The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

Yersin: We’re pretty intense but fun loving. You won’t be getting called a motherfucker ten times between every song but you will be getting 30 to 40 minutes of pure aggression and noise that we deliver pretty well. We’ve got a few things we’re hoping to try out at bloodstock too which should be pretty cool.

Bloodstock Bound: Yersin

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?

Yersin: We’re on the Sunday. The time isn’t set in stone yet but we’ll be on somewhere between 6pm and 7pm.

The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

Yersin: There’s so many but definitely want to see Satyricon, Carcass, Cultura Tres, Hatebreed, Enslaved, Nervosa and then aome of our friends in Burner, Osiah, Public Execution, Goblinsmoker and Rogue Limb.

The Razor's Edge: Playing the EMP Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

Yersin: So we’re playing the first Cosmic Vibration Festival at the end of August which shoukd be great and we’ve got a few other shows we’re yet to announce. That’s one of the only bad things about getting decent gigs, you’ve got to keep hush and can’t tell anyone, but yes there’s a lot of irons in the fire.

The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?

Yersin: So we aren’t camping. With all having work schedules we’ve got a little air bnb for the weekend as don’t think we’d be able to make it so we can all camp together and just so our gear is secure while we’re not playing. One year I went with a pal who was mates with one of the food vendors and we just camped with them behind the SOPHIE stage tent all weekend. Managed to blag our way into watching Pallbearer from the side of the stage.

The Razor's Edge: It’s festival weekend, what’s your food vendor of choice on site?

Yersin: Hmmmmm, not sure really. I’m pescatarian so I can’t go to everyone. Can’t knock some fish and chips (anyone who likes metal.kusic and fish and chips need to check out yhe riff n chips podcast btw). I once got wasted at a festival and put sugar all over my fish and chips instead of salt. Was rank but wasn’t wasting it. Just on the Bloodstock App now and could definitely get something from The Greek.
